getting some kind of funky message when I try to Open Attachment which happens to be pure text, ie. attachment is named Your_File.txt

is there something I need to install to be able to read text files?

BB is 8820, OS version is 4.5.0.110

As far as I know there is no special requirements for extracting a text file. In fact I just sent myself one and opened it just to make sure. Didn't get an error message or anything. What's the size of the file?

Should be able to open it.. Maybe download BBNotepad.

filesize is 3.3 kb (standard text file, 32 lines deep and 80 columns wide)

I click on Open Attachment and get

More Request can not be completed. Service Book information not found.

What "Service Book"?

Service books define what the BlackBerry can do. You can resend by logging into yourBIS account and use the resend service book option. Or from the email setup iconon your BlackBerry.
