Default Airtel Malawi APN settings please!

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everybody,

I own a Bold 9700 purchased from the national carrier Airtel Malawi (previously called Zain Malawi and even before, Celtel Malawi)

I would like to know if anybody knows the APN settings so I can tether. I am on BIS.

I have asked the Main Office and Customer Care about this settings and they have no clue, at least that's what they say anyway.

At one point somebody told me that the APN is blackberry.net. Sure enough, I put this into the BlackBerry Desktop Software (tools - mobile internet settings) and it shows it is connected but there is no access; Google page or anything else is not opening.

Please, if anybody can assist, I would greately appreciate it. Thank you!

I posted this message only in 2 places, and that's because I really need help with this.

I opened your link but I cannot find any information regarding my problem. Do you see any settings on that webpage?

Thank you!

Access Point Name (APN) = internet
WAP Settings

Thank you dc/dc, but my question was another one. Maybe I wasn't very clear, English is my second language; you have provided the settings for wap and internet, but I am on a data plan, using the BlackBerry Internet Service, and I want to be able to connect with the computer via the phone. I think this procedure is called "tethering".

You were perfectly clear. The settings I provided you will enable you to tether. You must set them in the phone under Options > Advanced > TCP/IP, and then you can use BlackBerry Desktop Manager on your PC to connect.

It doesn't work,dc/dc. I tried "internet", "wap", "blackberry.net"...and with "internet" it won't even connect, while with the other 2 it connects but no page is opening, not even Google.

Then most likely BlackBerry tethering is not allowed by Airtel/Zain. Many carriers do not include access to their Internet or WAP APNs in their BIS plans. I know for AWCC here in Afghanistan that if you are fortunate enough to get a BlackBerry plan, you still have to subscribe to the 999 Afghanis per month GPRS plan to get access to the Internet. This is fairly common with carriers outside of the first world.

No problem, I'm happy to help. These types of situations are tough, and unfortunately employee knowledge of a carrier's service tariffs and the like is universally poor. Best of luck to you!
