I'm keeping tabs on the number of calls/emails/walkups I've had on this today. I'm up to 17! The hell with the pencils. Let them get their own pencils. And string, too! I'm not supporting that 'network'!!!

Super Moderator...go easy on me I'm new and am just trying to share what I've found on the subject. I didn't see much else about patent ruling and was not implying that the patent ruling was the end to this...just pointing out an observation.
Well the problem with this snap analysis is that all patent rulings are appealable to the courts. RIM can win all of the patent rulings, but in the end the courts decide whether the patent rulings are valid.

What bugs me is why RIM hasn't just instituted its workaround and given us relief from all the wondering while the case winds its way through the system. I hope that it doesn't mean that the workaround doesn't actually work.

The press is saying the judge will not issue a ruling until early next week. Another weekend without a resolution.

Maybe the judge had a bad experience with a blackberry bush when he was little. Could explain his dislike for RIM.

The Bloomberg article was horrid, so one sided claiming RIM is 'likely' to be shut down. Media always love stiring this crap up. I was with some RIM product managers yesterday who were talking about multi-mode. It all seems nice and straight forward if this civil case gets in the way.

Play the video on the bloomberg update. There are many different flavors on a possible injunction ruling.

UGGGGGGGHH.

OMG, no kidding... I just walked back into the building and had about fifteen people asking if there was a decision yet. I even had a user this morning try to blame his issues on "The blackberry shutoff."

I do like juwaack68's contingency plan. I may have to keep that in mind...

I have to agree about how the media is playing this. Our local news radio programming, keeps saying "A federal judge could shut down all BlackBerry service today." It sounds so ominous, and they just can't help themselves.
Not that I'm an expert, but I would imagine that these lawyers are going to be fighting this for more than just today. And even though this Judge wants to get this case off his docket, he's probably going to have to hear at least a couple of days of argument and pretend to think about it before issuing a ruling. Given that, I would think that it will probably be at least another week before he issues a ruling.

According to CNBC the judge said there will be no shut-down today.

US judge stops short of BlackBerry cutoff

RICHMOND, Virginia (Reuters) - A U.S. judge on Friday stopped short of ordering an immediate shutdown of millions of BlackBerry portable e-mail devices made by Research In Motion Ltd..

But U.S. District Judge James Spencer said there was no escaping that RIM had been found to be infringing on NTP Inc.'s patents and he would issue a decision on an injunction "as soon as reasonably possible."
