Default O/S Upgrade Questions

Please Login to Remove!

I am presently using BB Desktop Mgr Ver. 4.2.2.14 (April 26, 2007) and my device (BB 8310 AT&T) uses Version 4.2.2.170. I'd would like to upgrade my software but am "technically-challenged." What do I need to do?

In particular, I cannot open .wmv files and would love to have Documents-to-Go Std. Edition on my BB8310.

Thanks

currently you can download the new DM from rims web site, as far as the OS upgrade no one here can tell you where to get it, you need to search for it. and the install is basic. lots of threads here explaining proper procedures for upgrades.

Do not tell anyone but you can find it listed in the stickies at the top of the 8300 forum.

A bit of advice, if you are "technically-challenged" and your device is working properly, why update the OS or Desktop Manager? If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

Well, that did occur to me. However, others were saying their devices seemed to work better and each upgrade reputedly is designed to do that.

DM 4.2 will work just fine.

It's a faulty assumption to think that each upgrade is better. Some new releases are just minor bugfixes that may or may not apply. 4.5 does add some additional functionality but be sure to read and determine if 4.5 really contains features that you really want. Also, read up on the 4.5 release that Vodafone has put out there for the 8310. There are a lot of people complaining about issues with that particular release. Some are waiting for a later 4.5 release.

Personally, I haven't had any problems with it. The video recording is neat but hardly worthwhile IMO. The browser, on the other hand has had some nice improvements. Nothing earth shattering but I think people using 4.5 will reconsider hassling with Opera Mini.
