JC you just made my day!! My trackball is filthy and I have been wanting to disassemble it and give it a good cleaning. I was terrified that I would break something in the process and refused to do it until I knew I could get my hands on a replacement!!

Oh yeah!!

Awesome find. Already bookmarked it. Might order a trackball assembly in the near future just in case I opt to take out the trackball in my Pearl to clean it. Only had it for a month and it's getting dirty.

Bookmarked here too.

Anyone order the replacement lens and can give a mini-review on fit/finish?

I bought my Pearl from a friend, and it was covered with various scratches, so I was hoping to replace the both the top lens and rear battery cover so I can put a protective clear skin to keep them from being damaged.

Bump.

I emailed these guys to see if they sold just the ball (I hate that mine is so dark but the rest works fine.) The guy called me to tell me that they don't sell just the ball, only the full assembly. However, he also told me that they were going to be selling a cleaning kit for the pearl. I asked him if it would get the ball back to it's white color again. He wouldn't really answer but just said it would be coming out soon. Keep an eye out for this soon.

This is great because even with the cleaning I just gave it my ball still looks filthy! :P (I don't care how bad it sounds...it's the truth!)

I'm skeptical if they can come up with anything to clean it. I've thought about bleach but don't know what that would do to the ball. I hate the dark ball. (don't care how it sounds either!) I might even step up and pay $59 for a new one. Couldn't hurt to have a new assembly once a year anyway.

Default High Prices?

...although I appreciate the fact that bbrepairshop are selling these parts, don't they seem astronomically highly priced to anyone else? For example, there is a website (cnn.cn) that sells the same OEM keyboard that bbrepairshop are selling for a mere 4.99 as opposed to the 29.99 that bbrepair are sellling it for.....
I really with bbrepairshop would lower their prices accordingly, because they carry more parts than cnn.cn.....

Sorry in advance, I know this is an 8100 thread, BUT...

I recently left my pearl for the curve. Comparing the devices side-by-side from the outside, the trackballs look identical. Does anyone know if the assembly is, indeed, the same? Or are the internals different? I've already emailed my question to the repair website, but haven't heard anything yet.

I admit I'm a little obsessive about my BB, but I hate the look of a dirty trackball and would feel so much more comfortable knowing I can replace it.

I *doubt* they are different. If you have them side by side and they are the same size, etc. then my guess would be that they are the same inside. They are quite simple inside. The ball rolls against 4 tiny rollers with magnetic rollers on the end. The magnetic rollers on the end each roll over the top of some kind of magnetic pickup and send the signal to the device. Not much to go wrong and very simple. I'm sure my terminology is off but that's pretty much how it works.

GARRR... they still don't have the chrome sides... I asked them and they did say they are in the "process" of getting them manufactured... with chrome and without chrome.

I actually sent them an email about this and about their high prices. Lets see if the prices come down a bit.

True. I bought a New battery and door for a white Pearl on eBay and paid $22 with shipping. However, I don't know of anywhere else to get the other Pearl parts like the battery latch, pearl button, and lens.

i tried to buy a battery door latch from them and they wanted to charge me 10.00 shipping for 1st class mail. this was a while ago, havent checked to see what it is now, but i was so offended that he wanted to charge me that much i said forget it. at the time it was 50.00 total, he wanted 39.99 + 10.00

left a sour taste in my mouth.

*edit it see its still crazy shipping....would have to be out of my mind to spend 50.00 on a peice of plastic.

Subtotal: $24.99
Shipping: $24.71*
Tax: $0.00
Total: $49.70

Just an update:

The email I received today said the trackball assembly will fit in the 8800 but they are still unsure about the curve. I'm betting it's a sure fit.

Hopefully the prices won't stay so high for very much longer.

It's funny, I added up the prices of all the individual components listed for sale (essentially pieces of plastic) and the price comes out to be almost what you can get a full BlackBerry for, and that's not even counting the battery, LCD, or ridiculous shipping prices.

I think I should start a business, buy a bunch of Pearls, disassemble them, and sell the pieces for $50+ each and $25 S&H per item.
