Question Trackball, Getting sick of my Blackberry...

Please Login to Remove!

I'm so sick of my Pearl it's not even funny. The trackball sticks so often, the phone is almost worthless. I clean it and only a few days later it sticks again. I'm almost ready to switch to the iPhone since the Storm seems to be a piece of junk (based only on what I've read). Question, I'm sick of cleaning the trackball, anyone know if the Verizon store has replacement trackballs, if not that where can I get a new trackball.

Thanks

You can get a new trackball assembly at HorizonWirelessOnline.com - Horizon Wireless, The World’s Cellular Repair Center ß

They're very easy to replace.

Question

Thanks, they seem to offer 2 different trackballs, one costs more than the other. However I can't see any difference between the two?

One is a black trackball and the other one is a white trackball.

I'd stick with the white one, only because the new Tour uses the black trackball and folks (like me) have noticed some unresponsiveness with our black trackballs. If could only be software-related, but one guy has said the fix is to substitute a white replacement trackball for the black.

I had an 8700c, and the trackwheel, although different than the ball, was so messed up I thought about shelling out retail prices for a newer Blackberry at the time. I discovered contact cleaner and used a quick shot into the trackwheel and it worked perfectly, like brand new. Contact cleaner for electrical contacts, not eye contacts. You should be able to get it at any electrical supply store, maybe even Radio Shack. We have it at my work so that's where I get mine. It is safe for electronics, but I would only use it sparingly. I would maybe try dabbing a little on a q-tip and manipulating the ball with it. But replacing is easy enough to be an option--Not so with the trackwheels.

Took it by the Verizon store and they replaced the trackball free of charge. All is well.

One suggestion: If you're keeping it in your pocket, put it in a holster if possible. When I see sticky trackballs, the user is almost always putting it in their pockets unholstered. The trackball likes to collect dust in this situation.

Do you carry the device in your pocket? If so, that is the issue. It isn't the trackball. Carrying it in a pocket subjects it to dirt and lint which block the contacts under the ball.

A new on will not solve the problem for very long.

Carry in a pouch and that should solve the problem.
