Please no offense to everyone - But I HATE the Blackberry
Please Login to Remove!
Please don't take this as a put down to anyone out there - I'm just talking for me - but I'm coming from the Treo platform and have been forced to use a Curve now by our IT group. I truly find this thing far less intuitive, and far more frustrating than the Treo Palm interface.
Perhaps with more time to learn ( and I really hope so ) I'll come to love this device.
Here's my specific issues at the moment:
- Password Keeper "disappeared" from my main screen. It' not "hidden", and when I view my applications it is listed, but I cannot get it to show up. Where'd it go and why?
- When saving a new number after someone calls me, I do not see an option to save the number to a current contact (say I have Jim Smith's cell #, but he calls me from his house and I want to add that to the existing contact under "home"). I don't see a way to do that other than create a new contact and then go back and copy/paste. Am I missing something?
- I cannot change a contact's phone type. Say a new person calls me, or I call them, and I want to save their number, it just shows up as "work", and when I go back to try to change it to "mobile", I cannot find a way to do so.
- I have many many duplicates on my calendar on the device, but not on my Outlook. They are set to synch together, yet I get all these duplicates on the BB, why?
- When someone sends me back a "Meeting Request" reply and adds a comment, it is not readable on the device. Again, am I missing something here?
- I really hate the keyboard compared to the Treo - I fat finger so much more often.
I realize I had about 8 years of practice with the Treo and I'm hoping to become as much or more proficient on the BB Curve, but I'm really not digging this device yet and was hoping everyone out there's who is an expert can set me straight.
Thanks

Welcome to the forums.
I'm sure it will take some time to go from 8 years of Treo use to using a BlackBerry. I would probably feel the same way going from a BlackBerry to a Treo.
As for your issues:
- Password Keeper may have been moved into a folder. Do you have any folders on your main screen?
- Saving new numbers to a contact - there may be a 3rd party app that does that, but otherwise it's cut/paste
- When you save a new contact's number, the default field to save the number to is 'work' (there is no way to change that). You'd have to cut/paste the number from the 'work' field to the 'mobile' field. Again, there may be a 3rd party app that does that better.
- Sounds like your Desktop[CICAL] service book may be corrupted. Best to contact your BES Admin. However, if I had a user with this problem, I'd have them delete/undelete that service book so that the calendar would resync.
- Not sure I'm following the meeting request reply....
- Keyboard will take time to get used to....
Good luck with it. Give it some time and you'll get used to it.

I promise I'm trying to like it...
In a way it's fun having a new toy, and I really am going to try to master this thing.
But as you can see from the first reply it won't do certain functions that I really used a lot. It will be a tradeoff, no doubt, but I am trying to learn all I can and embrace this thing.
Thank you.

The Password Keeper was (and still is) somewhere on the device
I can see it in the Toools:Advanced :Applications menu, but it will not show up as an icon.

And regarding Calendar Synch, I just tried to Synch 1 way from Outlook to the device in hopes it would remove my duplicates on the device, and it only added more duplicates!!!
I did check the option that allowed the device to be overwritten too.

Welcome to the forums.
Have you tried removing the battery for 30 seconds to see if that corrects the Password Keeper issue?
Are you syncing through Desktop Manager or are you connected to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server that synchronizes over the air?

To repeat, if you are on a BES, your IT Policy could have disabled the Password Keeper application. You need to ask your Admin about that.

I did remove the battery, but no luck finding the icon.
The bigger issue to me is the calendar synch, why would I have so many dupes?

It would help if we knew if you were on BES or not. I would assume so since it is a corporate device that was given to you. However, you know what they say when you assume.
Go into Options > Advanced Options > Enterprise Activation. Do you have an Activated On date?

I hope I answer this right, we do not have a BB Server in our company, so we are gettiing updated through the internet. Make sense?
I must synch contacts and calendar via wire.

That should eliminate the IT Policy theory.
For the missing icon, from the homescreen, press the menu key and select Show All. If you don't see it there, go into each folder and Show All. It may be hidden within a folder.
As for the calendar, try wiping the calendar and then syncing again.
Go into Calendar > Options, scroll to the bottom and type RSET. You will not see anything being typed. You will be prompted that your calendar will be wiped. Select Yes. Once it is wiped, try doing the sync again.

Conyers - that fixed my calendar issue! Thanks so much!
However, my Password Keeper is still MIA, I've looked all over and hit "show all", looked for errant folders, etc... It's a sneaky app. apparently.
Also - what's up with my not being able to read someone's response to an Outlook Meeting Request? I put a meeting invite out there, and when someone responds I cannot see their comments on the device?
Anyone know?
Thanks again!
