Default Unlocked 9530 on Tmobile edge/EDGE resolved but looking for advice

Please Login to Remove!

I have a 9530 unlocked on tmo service. I went all the way up to .144 (leaked) and found the OS fast but everytime an app used data like VZ navigator or facebook etc...the EDGE dropped to edge. The browser worked ok once i locked to EDGE but it would lose edge when trying to use aim or such. Went all the way back down to .75. SLOWER OS but solid EDGE and no probs with any apps. Only Poynt won't work.

I NEED EDGE for data. It's why i'm on the bb and not any htc phones. Anyway, I wanted to go to .141 or .144 and use swap a radio to .75. Swap a radio indicates .75 may brick later java. Any confirmation of this and which OS's exactly are not good with the .75 swap

I swapped .75 and it bricked my Storm for a while with .144. Back at .132 but it's still cycling, I really don't like it. I'll have to go to .75 if that's the case. I really don't know what to do, i like how fast the OS is but the unstable EDGE to edge is killing me

I use .90 all the way. That is the only radio file version that I used that didnt brick my phone temporaily. It always works no matter what 3rd party data driven application I use.

I have the same problem. Using Verizon 9530 on Rogers. EDGE worked fine when I had .75 and .76, but started dropping once I upgraded to .122, .141 , and now .148. Had to switch back to my Bold

Many of the third party applications use the APN/TCP connection rather than the BIS connection. For some reason, and I don't understand it fully, apps like TeleNav, Shazam, Pandora and others will cause your EDGE to drop to 'edge' when accessing the TCP ports. I don't know a way around it, and I have spoked with a couple of developers at WES last week about it.

This only happens on the 9530 devices unlocked using a GSM carrier, like Tmo, ATT, etc.

has anybody used this phone overseas on a 3G network ? how is connection quality ? i am going to europe next month, i will be there for a while....

i have a SIM card with a number but it is just a prepay card where i can recharge the voice minutes and sms allowance as needed, but if vodafone has pay-as-you-go or prepay BIS service, i may look into it.

i am unsure how BIS service works, because i already have BIS with tmob here in the US, so i am unsure if the same PIN device can be used with another carrier when the service is still provided by another carrier....

Where could I get .90? I hate how i can't type in full qwerty in portrait mode right now on .75 and its hard to edit text without the new scroll feature I had in .122.

I use a 3G network out of Jamaica at least once per month. The connection quality is excellent, but I'm still using .75 haven't upgraged yet. As a matter of fact I have no NEED to right now.

Re: The Tmobile Storm EDGE/edge problem, the following worked for me:

I'm on .148

Disable the APN settings, then set your mobile network to GSM and 2G.

Then go to manage connections and disable the network, wait for the signal meter to change to "off". Then reconnect and it should stay on EDGE.

Found those tips here on various threads but hope this helps, the EDGE/edge was driving me crazy. This also fixed Vlingo for me after I changed the settings to use BIS as the connection type. GPS now also connects quickly on Google Maps.

My TMO Storm is now running pretty SWEET...now gotta debate if I want to do it all over again with the STORM2...

Right, this does work well for GSM users, this was discovered by JSanders on this forum and has been posted on Crackberry.com by another user as well. Storms are all their own personality, so get the switch a radio tool and find the radio file that works best for you then disable the TCP/IP settings and if no 3G choose 2G only and turn your connection off for a min then back one. If 3G is avail, switch to 3G and do the same, turn connection off for a min, then back on, with 3G it has been reported you may have to try this 3-4 times, but GSM users in the US dont have 3G due to the freq used by North Am carriers.
