Some advice on the MacBoook to Pro upgrade. I did it and was left with buyers remorse. I love(d) my MacBook and thought I needed a bigger screen. Once I had the thing, I wasn't really that excited about the difference. I also liked my black MacBook, because it looked better.

If you happen to have the money to upgrade, go for it, but otherwise save your OT hours for something else, unless you are upgrading for more than the screen size.

Aw man, I was planning to get the newer Penryn MacBook Pro to upgrade from the White SR 2.2 MacBook that I have now. I think the 2GB RAM would make a lot of difference. You think?

BTW, fire up your software updates as I saw three: Safari 3.1, one for the Airport and a security update

i got the mb pro 2.4 about 2 months ago. Upgrading to 4gb is noticeable but not that big of a deal. I'm running parallels so i wanted the ram to run it well. I had a powerbook before so i like the silver ones

You don't have to pay much for very functional software.

NeoOffice is native to the Mac (no X11). Pixelmator and Graphicconverter are just as good for Photoshop work, without the Adobe pride. And there's a lot more out there on versiontracker.com

Macs get a lot of flak from windows folks -- usually from Windows users who never set paws actually on a Mac. The reverse is true, too, but not in the numbers. I'm not a gamer, so I really don't care about Halflife and such. With that, I haven't found something that could be done on a windows system that I couldn't do natively from a Mac, or worst-case, via Terminal/CLI. But there's a LOT of noise out there from both sides that muddies the water.

Oh -- here's something I can't do with the Mac without Parallels -- run any RIM software. They apparently haven't figured out how to code for the Mac to any great degree. So I was wrong. If RIM doesn't want to code for the Mac, was I wrong to bother to buy a BB?

Getting a Macbook Pro this week. I'm very excited and looking forward to running my ex720 through sprints new connection manager and the occasional tethering via BT. Mac, here I come!!!

Good luck and let us know. I'm waiting for mine. ETA is May 3rd as I had to have my cousin do it for me (she's from SFO and I'm from the Philippines). It's pretty expensive over here so I wanted it direct and handled well rather than have it shipped.

Harry, sounds great. Just don't get your hopes up about BT. RIM has done a horrid job (or should I say: PocketMac/RIM/Mark-space/Apple) in deploying BT functionality with Blackberries beyond the modem aspect. No syncing, no media access.

I'd blame Apple, but my Nokia could do it flawlessly, and that phone was over 3 years old.

This is completely a software issue, so it is solvable. RIM, if you lurk here for ideas, Mac users are accustomed to things working well. We do not all care for the iPhone/AT&T stranglehold. Your products would be accepted. You have to show us you care: open up the bluetooth and give us a desktop manager that is platform-agnostic.

Couldn't agree more! I love my macbook pro and hate to see the dangling wire just so my equally beloved BB 8310 can sync.
