There are quite a few topics already created about this very issue.

The two most common OS versions that people are running are 4.6 and 5.0. Do a quick search and you will find the pros and cons to each.

I can recommend an upgrade to OS 5.0, but make sure that its 5.0.0.681, as the .822 version has a major bug in it.

Also, when you're going to upgrade, check to see that the "Vendor .xml" file has been removed from the "App launcher" folder in your program files so you don't get any of the carrier files included in your install, unless you want to of course.

My suggestion is to get to know the device before you try to fix it with an OS upgrade. Get to know what it can and cannot do. Make it work for you. You may find that with it running 4.6, it isn't broken at all and does what you want it and need it to do.

If processing speed is your overiding objective, 5.0 is noticeably faster. If maximizing app memory is the top priority, stick with 4.6. 5.0 has a few other "enhancements," but only time with 4.6 will make those appreciable. The good news is it's just as easy to go backwards as forwards if you find you've made a regrettable move. Whatever else you do, keep an eye on application memory at least daily by looking at options > memory. When it drops into the teens, 4.6 gets wonky. A battery pull gets it all back.

I have upgradeed to version 5.0.0.822 and it was utter crap. All my ringtones became silent no matter what I would do....

Then I installed version 5.0.0.681 and I've been very pleased with it.

I recommend you upgrade to 681
