i got one of these today for my missus on an O2 UK contract, with no data bolt on. no mobile data needed as (a) o2 edge in my area is dire (b) she's not into the messenger stuff (c) will be on wifi only.

how can i turn off the O2 mobile data internet connection on the phone completely, so i can just use wifi? if i turn data off it turns off all data, inc wifi!

there is no APN settings in the phone but it still connects to O2 mobile internet on edge which she doesn't want. i can turn data off and keep wifi with ease on my Galaxy S2 and iPhone before. why not on the 9860?

any tips here would be appreciative.

Some carriers block or do not download the service books required to use WIFI for users who dont have a BB data plan.. You said you dont have a data plan so if the WIFI works your carrier may not do this and you dont have access to the internet via the cell network.

thanks for the reply. i don't have a data plan, but can still access the internet without wifi which i don't want. is there simply no way to block mobile internet data services on a BB without losing wifi as well?

Turning off data in options will turn off all data, even wifi. Turning off the mobile network and leaving wifi on will turn off mobile data, but it will also turn the phone off.

thats my prob. just wanna turn off data and leave wifi on, whilst being able to make calls and sms. sorta miffed that BB would skip over something so trivial that other smartphones do effortlessly.
