For some reason this morning, my 8830 just locked up and the LED got stuck in red, with no screen. I pulled and reinserted the battery, but all I got was a battery icon on screen with a red line through it. Thinking it was possibly a defective battery, I pulled it and reinserted a new one with the same result. A 3rd battery didn't change anything. All batteries are fully charged. The only way I can get it to boot up, is by plugging it in to the A/C adapter 1st and then reinserting the battery 2nd. Obviously that's an issue. I cleaned the contacts on the BB, but that didn't change anything either. My question is, what exactly does that icon indicate? I was about to do a java wipe and reload but I'm thinking that wouldn't fix the problem. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you've done everything but the javaloader wipe. I would try that next.
