I have been waiting to be able to play audio file attachments on my BB for years (not on a BES) and now I can finally do it!!!
Program called AudioPop allows you to play mp3, wav or wma attachments on your BB. I receive voice mails that I miss at my office via email as an attachment. Until now, I have to call in and retrieve them. NO MORE!!
AudioPOP from Virtual Views (www.virtualviews.com) makes it work. I had to get a little bit of help from their excellent and responsive support team via email but it works perfectly. I have no connection with this company. BUT, their product works GREAT and their support team quickly and politely responded to my numerous emails to get my settings correct. I would guess it would work on many other BB devices, at least according to their website it does. My friend has a Pearl and uses it. Anyway, I wanted to sing their praises because this product really does what it says it will do. I love it!!! If anyone wants more info from me on this product, I will be happy to provide.

I tried once, but I remember it was too complicated to get it work... So I canceled. So looks like you also had some problems?

By the way, does it work with multiple pop3 email accounts?

I had a few problems at first. I have seven email accounts (I know, too many) 5 are pop 3 and 2 exchange server accounts. It really doesn't matter how many you use. It just keys in on whichever one you recieve your voice mail at. Once I got everything working it was very logical how to set it up. It probably is just a bit complicated but they were so quick to reply to my questions, however stupid or redundant they might have been. I would highly recommend it. Don't be bashful about asking them for help. They have a FAQ page which covers many issues and questions.

Nice! Do the files have to be encoded at certain bitrates?

That I do not know but just ask the the techs at Virtual Views Mobile Software. They will get you a quick answer.
