Default Pink 7290

Please Login to Remove!

I painted my girlfriend's 7290 pink using automotive paints. The results came out pretty well, except for the being pink thing, but not much you can do about that when a girl wants it pink.

Here is a picture of it. I also posted some more pictures In This Thread

Although I just threw up in my mouth because of the color, I must say that is an excellent paint job.

Great job. I know what you mean about the pink. I best not be showing my girlfriend this picture.

Well thank you. Believe me, I much rather would have done something like a gunmetal, perhaps something over the top like flames or crazy techno-geometric patterns. However, My girlfriend really wanted pink. She has wanted a pink BB for years, so I did this for her birthday. I really wish the photos did it more justice. It has this really nice metallic finish that just dosen't come across in the pictures.

Have you noticed any difference in reception after adding an extra layer of paint for the internal antenna to transmit and receive through?

No, no difference at all. It is highly unlikely that any paint (aside from some exotic paint designed specifically to be radio absorbing. or some really old lead based paint) would have any effect on reception. Now electroplating might have an effect on reception, but the amount of conductive material in a urethane enamel is pretty low.

Besides, it really isn't much of a net change over the stock T-Mobile casing, since it already had a metallic fleck paint on it to start with.

If you look on the other link I have in my first post, on that thread I go into more detail about how I did it. The short answer is that I used 3200 grit, all the way down to 12000 grit.

Hunh. I might have to try this with my 7280. The blue is cool, but green with rainbow speckles would be even cooler.

You know, ever since I painted hers, I have had quite a few people actually ask me to paint their BB or phone. Problem is that the cost of materials is so high, and it is so labor intensive, that there is no way I could do it in any sort of commercially viable way. I suppose that is why there aren't any companies that do this sort of thing. It actually would have been quicker to glue a bunch of those tacky crystals on the thing, rather than all the sanding, and laying down another coat, and sanding, and laying down another coat.

Although the colour is a lot to stomach, this has to be the best quality paint job I've seen on a BlackBerry yet. Well done!!!!

Thank you very much for all the compliments. I have been airbrushing plastic models for 20 years, so I have quite a bit of experience, and know quite a few tricks to get a good finish on plastic. The real trick was finding materials that were tough enough that they would stand up to the daily handling and abuse a mobile device is subjected to.
