Do you have a data plan? Here is the skinny -
EDGE- able to use the data functions on the device, which include PIN messages as well as the browser on the BlackBerry device.
edge- indicates that the device is attempting to register on the GPRS network, and is still able to place or receive calls as well as send or receive SMS messages.
GSM- indicates that the device is able to make and receive calls as well as send and receive SMS messages.
X- indicates that the device is not receiving a signal.
SOS- indicates that the device can place emergency calls only.

well on my phone it says EDGE and i've tried to access the internet on it (we requested it 3 days ago, and it's still not working (done a battery pull/softrest too)) and i get a message saying exactly this:

"Your device does not currently have any Browser Configuration ervice Book Entries.
Please contact your service provider to enable the Broswer on your device."

Either log into your BIS site (assuming you are using BIS) and try to resend the Service Books or call the carrier back because it isn't provisioned properly.

Once the carrier sees your BB, they will push down the Service Books for the browser.

Sounds like you need to resend your service books. You have a browser icon but cannot browse? Do you have a BLACKBERRY DATA PLAN or something else?

If there was no BB Data Plan it would show Data Connection Refused.
