Default 4GB SDHC Card Works Fine with 8800

Please Login to Remove!

I have seen multiple posts on this forum concerning the 8800 maximum size for the micro SD card. I installed a 4GB SanDisk micro SDHC card into my 8800 and it works perfectly. I filled half of it (2.2G) already with my music. I can load it either directly through the BB Desktop manager (v4.2.2.14 with Roxio) or with a card reader. Make sure your card reader can handle the micro SDHC cards. I purchased my micro 4GB SDHC card through 9th Tee Enterprises who did an excellent job and had a good price!
I can't wait until the 8GB cards come out...
Jim

hmm, well thats good to know but I just ordered a 2GB since my 1GB went bad... Ive seen the 4gb on ebay for about $65 shipped... I hope I don't regret getting a 2gb. About how many music files did it take to fill up the 2.2 gb of your 4?

About 590 songs. I see SanDisk announced the micro 8GB SDHC on July 2nd. Availability is "later 2007" meaning it will be at the end of the year before consumers see it.

Yup. My 4GB is working great as well. It registers 3.7GB in the media card menu. I'm a happy camper.

Is there any reason to believe that these 4 GB cards would not work in my 8830? I know it's in the 8800 series so I would expect it to work, but wasn't sure if Verizon had imposed another unnecessary limitation on my phone.

Anyone with a VZW 8830 using a 4 GB card?

***NEVER MIND***

I found another thread.

Always nice to link the other thread for the next guy/gal searching. I would say that all of the devices will take the 4Gb card now. The Pearl was the first and it accepts the 4GB card with the latest OS installed.

Thanks, John.

Has anyone found that their PC also needs a hotfix to recognize the 4gb SDHC?

I'm running WinXP, SP2 ... just want to be prepared.

I have XP Pro with SP2 and had no problem Reading/Writing the 4gb via Desktop Manager or a card reader. Make sure your card reader can handle the microSDHC cards. Most heritage card readers are not compatible with the new SD high capacity cards. An adapter will not help. Not a function of your PC OS but your reader. Reading/Writing via the BB Desk Top Manager and the 8800 is slow compared to Reading/Writing directly to the card.

Thanks for the tip about micro SD cards from 9th tee. I ordered two of the 4GB SanDisk cards this afternoon (great price), and I've already received the tracking # from UPS. Very impressive.

Yunone,
The links appear to be all SD cards not microSD cards that fit into the 8800.

When I first started seeing these 4gb posts (with at least one or two people saying they got it to work in their 8800's), I went over to amazon.com and ordered me up a 4gb Sandisk.

Worst scenario, since it came with the adapters for MicroSD and StandardSD, it'd find a home somewhere in one of my cameras, gps's or old standby phones.

It arrived today; so I backed up my 2gb (straight off the phone in mass storage mode) and put the 4gb in. Boom, 3.7gb recognized, I was in business! Restoring my files onto it as I post.
