I think it's identical to those supported for the 8800/8830, with the reported addition of being able to watch videos in full-screen. So if you go to the 8800 forum and check out the stickied topic on 8800 videos, you'll see all kinds of talk about converting vids to 320x180 to make up for the lack of full-screen viewing ability. You would convert to 320x240 for the Curve I think instead.

At any rate, here's the list from RIM's website for the Curve:

The following Video formats are supported:

MPEG-4 Part 2 - Simple Profile + bvops (including DivX files in this format)
H.263 Profile 0 and Profile 3
WMV 9 Simple Profile Video Decoder

The following Video file extensions are also supported:

.avi containing MPEG4 Part 2 and H.263
.mov containing MPEG4 Part 2 and H.263
.3gp containing MPEG4 Part 2 and H.263
.mp4 containing MPEG4 Part 2 and H.263
.m4v containing MPEG4 Part 2 and H.263
.mpg containing MPEG4 Part 2 and H.263

Will the Curve support .avi divx files? According to above, MPEG-4 part 2 divx files are supported, and .avi with MPEG-4 part 2 is also supported.... So through deductive reasoning, .avi divx files would work? Can anyone confirm?

(my BB8300 is on its way... haven't received yet)

cheers

Default Curve Video Format

I have tried many combinations and this it what I find works best for me. Use Super C by eRightSoft (free by the way) and convert your videos with the following settings for the 8300:

Output container: avi
Output video codec: MPEG-4
Output audio codec: mp3

Check off: MEncoder

Video

Video Scale Size: 320x240
Aspect: 4:3
Frames/Sec: 14.985
Video Bitrate: 480
Video Options: Hi Quality

Audio

Sampling Freq: 44100
Channels: 2
Audio Bitrate kbps: 128
DVD Language Select: default

When a box pops up chose DivX not DivX 5 or 6 plain DivX no number next to it.

No need to get Media Manager involved if you have a media card in the BB.
Just enable Mass Storage Mode Support under options and then Media Card.

The BB will come up just like a drive under My Computer in windows, open up the folder scroll down to videos folder and drop your videos right in there.

maybe because it's exactly half... could be because that's a good trade-off between size/speed and quality??

trade off i can understand, but the half the size thing? hmmm

in my experience, regardless of the size of the video, fps that low show not such a good quality. i havent used that program he suggested yet and maybe the proggie does something spectacular to make the vid look great

meant size as in file size (not resolution)

I'm on a mac so I use iSquint - but I set it at 15 fps and it looks good actually.

So, I suggest you try it and see what you think. In my opinion, the smaller file size is worth it, and on such a small screen, image quality is obviously not the point any way.
