I work in technical support and I feel your pain mate... however I would expect you are probably paid to take that kind of stick like me. You may not work in customer services so you feel you shouldn't take that crap and in all honesty you shouldn't... but the truth is that to the consumer you are another drone in a call centre, the only face of a business they can speak to.

Thats why call centre jobs pay well... and also have a high turn over in staff in some cases.

I hate my job, but thats why im leaving in August to go to uni, hurray!!!

Assume the original post was about working in a Call Center...and in my own experience as a Call Center employee, all of the standard complaints are pretty valid (Low pay, verbal abuse from customer, etc)...but I will say this:

There is no other entry level position that will expose you to every other facet of the business like working in a Call Center. It is a great jumping off point for a career.

I think you hit the nail on head, great for the experience but it's something you really have to patience for.. people can be pretty stupid..

I had one guy me because the construction in his building was too noisy... It was "Not a proper working environment" so of course the IT Help desk can fix that

Funny thing is he put me on speaker on so I can hear the noise, I put him on hold to laugh... When I came back on the line the noise stopped and he thanked me and hung up hahaaha

call centers here are flourishing.

considering that a lot of major corporations source out their 'help' centres or call centres to india, it comes as no surprise that middle class families are thrilled when their kids get into one of them.. because they can brag to their friends, 'my daughter/son works for a call center for (eg) AT&T'.

maybe it's not much, but for these families it means a lot.
everyone goes through tons and tons of abuse at these call centres, but like ndub said, it gives you probably the best exposure in business than you ever thought possible.
