According to several sources, including GottaBeMobile.com, the long awaited OS 2.0 for the Playbook will be released on February 17th.
Included will be a suite of apps that really should have been there from the start, apps like integrated email, calendar, and contact. In addition, the update should bring BlackBerry Runtime for Android Apps which will allow PlayBook users to run Android applications.

Re: Playbook OS 2.0
Interesting... on January 31, Alec Saunders (VP Developer Relations) tweeted:
I can't confirm the date. We did, however, send mail to devs over a week ago asking for this to be complete by Feb 3.

Re: Playbook OS 2.0
They are saying a senior RIM exec blabbed it on a podcast. I haven't seen the podcast yet though.

Re: Playbook OS 2.0
This update has changed a good tablet into a great tablet. Clearly blows my asus android and my work I-pad right out of the water. 3g connectivity without a data plan is something that android and apple owners can only dream of. Many of us thought that RIM had lost it's collective mind when the seven inch form factor was used. But guess what? THEY WERE RIGHT! The size coupled with the incredible screen resolution is the perfect combination. That is why apple and most of the android manufacturers are rushing to get their own seven / eight inch screens onto the market. Anyone looking for a great tablet with lots of apps and corporate level security should be grabbing one of these little beauties before the price goes back up!!

What is an I-pad?
Also, many OEMs that use the Android OS had 7" tablets out well before RIM. Samsung Galaxy Tab, to name one.
