Default Blackberry and Wi-Fi

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all. I'm new to having a Blackberry and I'm so far enjoying the experience. In my country we have a daily rate for unlimited Blackberry Internet Service and this just fits perfectly well with what I need out of the device/network. My question is, on those days that I don't subscribe to the unlimited BIS of my network, how can I configure my BB to just run on Wi-Fi? I've tried the tutorials in Google and all, changing the browser settings to "Hotspot Browser" and clearing out the APN but it's still not working. Maybe it's a problem with my router? Is there something I need to configure. My router is a Linksys WRT160N. I tried it this morning, when my data subscription expired, and the Wi-Fi icon lights up but I still can't seem to browse using only the Wi-Fi connection. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you.

It's possible that the phone requires a data plan to work on WIFI. That's carrier dependant as some carriers don't allow the use of WIFI unless you've got an active subscription and that's controlled by the service books.

Let me ask a question: If you remove the Vendor file would that fix the problem? As I recall once I had a data plan I could use wifi.

You cannot get BlackBerry data without a BlackBerry data plan. Even on wifi. Without a data plan the only thing that will work is the hotspot browser and some 3rd party apps that are built to use wifi. No email. No BBMessenger. Etc.

I've had my Bold for about a week and a half and up until today, the Wi-Fi feature was working really well. Now, the Wi-Fi icon no longer appears in the status bar when I turn on the phone and when I try to launch the Wi-Fi setup app, I get an error message that says "Unable to turn Wi-Fi on".

First troubleshooting step, almost always, is to remove the battery for 30-60 seconds. Do that and then try again.
