Default BB Maps not found, Help please

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

I just bought my unlocked 9700 and I can't find BB Maps icon anywhere. I have already tried the following:

- Show all applications
- Installed BB Maps using app loader
- Downloaded maps launcher app (somebody posted a link in these forums)

I can see that it is installed under applications but I can niether see the icon anywhere or launch the application.

Please help.
Many thanks.

Sounds like your carrier is blocking BlackBerry Maps. Some do.

Try another mapping application like Google Maps.

First of all, what carrier are you with, and secondly, do you have the blackberry internet service on your current plan with your carrier?

Edit: beat me to the punch as usual, JSanders...heh

even if the carrier doesnt allow it, (like ATT) he said he installed the launcher icon. i bet its there and your just not finding it. un-hide everything, and look in EVERY folder. do you know what the icon looks like so you know what your looking for?

Appropriate place for the post. I just got a 9700 and have 5.0 OS. In the past all I had to do was remove the Vendor file, references to my carrirer and download the BBMaps. Something like 1.2. Now with the 5.0 OS is there some requirement to use service books with the maps? I have removed Maps 5.0.

I beg to differ. BB Maps is far faster and works perfectly well. The latest version of Google Maps with all its bells and whistles is extremely slower. My wife has the older version and I keep reminding her not to upgrade. 3.2.1 vs 3.0.2. I get the hourglass all the time, while hers (2G) loads.. Anyway, surely it is superior, but not as fast.

I also suffer from disappearing BB Maps syndrome. I can swear that I had BB Maps on my phone until recently. I can still use it from BB Messenger (when there is an address) or whenever I have to send my location. Just the other day I forgot which program it was, but it opened the map and I was able to use it with GPS, but now I cannot find it again, yes I am on AT&T and it is silly that AT&T would block it. Last I checked, they were not Verizon...

Go to search, change it to Site Search, type Maps and search.
In the results page scroll all the way down, you will see your link there.

It is so weird. I tried everything I can still can't find the link to download the blackberry Maps. When I put the Maps in the search it returned a bunch of links for the user Guide and three links for weather applications.

Could you please put the link here so I can manually put it in my blackberry browser?

Thanks,

From my BlackBerry browser, I just simply googled "blackberry.com maps" and the first link available was to the correct place. Scroll to the bottom of page for the link.

That's ^^ the easy way.

Or:
h t t p://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/features/blackberry_maps.jsp
