Default DocumentsToGo, Small Doubts

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I got my BB curve 8310 with DocsToGo Standard 1.x. It didnt have SheetToGo by default. I was told that i needed to register the software and then it would update and i would get SheetToGo.

I registered on the dataviz website and got a link where i downloaded DTG Standard 2.0 which includes SheetToGo. But Id like to know a few things.

How can i download and save the Upgrade Installer / Or Installation Files ? I tried mailing Dataviz and it seems like they only send out auto replies and never answer emails. Actually they dont give you a chance to email or contact them if your a BB user having the preinstalled software that came with the phone. They only have support messaging for users who are going to buy their full software or are willing to pay them more. They dont even help with first time installations. And the best part is the OTA updater allows only upto 5 downloads and will also expire in 30 days.

What id like to do is enable that i can always use DTG 2 since we are entitled to it. How does one save this updater file ? I found a link to the DTG Standard 2.0 offline installer from the general downloads section of the dataviz site and have saved it. But i dont know if that will automatically identify that we are eligible and allow us to use it or will it ask for a fresh licence ?

Also i want to know, users of DTG standard cant sync our DTG files with our desktop files is it ? If not are there any workarounds. Like can we buy their Files to go app only or something just to enable syncing ?

Dataviz offers a download protection option open buying the premium version.

I've found the initial downloads to be active when I needed to re-download it.

But thats the premium version. Im talking about the DTG standard 2.0 which we are eligible to and which comes standard with the BB phone. Meaning it comes as version 1 and allows you to upgrade to 2 by registering online and using their OTA updater. This adds excel functionality (sheet to go) onto the phone too. But the downnload will work only for a month.

How on earth will you restore DTG 2.0 if a phone goes berserk after a month ??. They offer an OTA download only to upgrade our default DTG standard 1.0 into standard 2.0 which basically puts excel onto the phone. Now after a month if i have to do a hard reset or anything then im screwed as my OS will restore to factory condition and go back to DTG standard 1.0. At that time how will i get SheetToGo back or do the same update process to enable ver 2.0. The OTA link wont work then. And the irony is that when they send you the ota link on the pc they tell you to "save the installer for future use if we need to reinstall it, as the links may not be available". Now id like to know if they are just goofing around or is there really some way to save the updater ?

You need to back up the third party applications on your device to your computer. This is the user's responsibility.

Documents to Go doesn't work any differently from any other application.

But i was just told in another thread i recently posted, that you cannot backup third party apps. Now i dont know whether DTG qualifies as 3rd party or not because it seems to be both ways. Ive done device backups regularly. Do you mean my DTG registered and upgraded is also being backed up ?

You CAN backup third party applications. What you were likely told in another thread was that they are not backed up AUTOMATICALLY in BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

But if you search for "backup third party applications" or perhaps just read the BlackBerryFAQs linked at the top of every page here, you will find instructions.

I went to the FAQs and read the procedure on how to back up 3rd party applications. I wanted to know if after restoring 3rd party applications using this method will they just function as they used to. Or will they expire/ask for validation / registration again ?

Thanks
