I'm in the non-customer but pee-eee-O'd category. What is that, empathy? Yeah, I empathize with you guys, whether you knew if before buying or not. Don't think you have a case against VZ, but I'm no lawyer.....which, if I were, I guess I'd say, HECK YEAH YOU HAVE A CASE, and I, on spec, will take 90% of what we can take from VZ (no offense to you attorneys here on the board).

By the way, for you marketing people that might be lurking here, for whatever it's worth, this sort of thing would make me go out of my way to avoid VZ just on principle if I for some reason had to change carriers; and it goes without saying VZ is not going to lure me away from my current carrier. Same thing with some of the stuff I've learned here on the board about things other carriers are doing...Heck, I'll punish my adult children if they ever go with VZ.

I don't believe it is right. If the RIM or any other maker makes a phone with GPS, give us the device with GPS. Who are they to disable it when we pay our hard earned money to buy the devices and pay for the service.

ok, i will admit, i would PREFER that verizon NOT disable bluetooth file transfer and GPS capabilities and other capbilities. that would be my PREFERENCE. i do realize that the quality of the network is not the way it is, as a result of disabling features. verizon could have all of the features enabled and the network would still be the same. i do not agree with the initial advertising of bluetooth a few years ago when they did not say that OBEX was disabled. they have long fixed that tho too. the "unlimited data plan" fiasco has also now been addressed and verizon no longer advertises it as unlimited, but rather just caps usage to 5GB (as stated in their TOS)

however, verizon is able to do anything that they want because people have the freedom to choose a network (verizon, att, tmobile, sprint, alltel, etc...the list goes on and on). everyone needs to pick a company based on the following criteria (in order from most important to least important):

1) coverage (no coverage = NO SERVICE!)
2) additional features important to oneself (if you need GPS, MMS, BB Data, PDA Data, tethering..etc...then look for a carrier and a phone that offers everything you need)
3) cost (too much $$ means minute counting or KB counting = HASSLE!)

it is also important to see what the people you talk to the most have. for example, if your girlfriend and all of your friends have verizon, it would make sense to get verizon. the same goes for any company.

all in all, i don't agree with verizon disabling...but they can do whatever they want. verizon service is superior to any carrier in this country and i have NEVER had a dropped call on my end unless it was due to going into a tunnel or something. EV-DO rocks and makes EDGE look like dial-up, and text messaging on verizon is awesome too, with delivery confirmation and EMS allowing you to send up to 1120 (7, 160 character texts) characters in one single text message. this is something other carriers don't do unless it's a MMS. also, the max size for MMS is significantly bigger on verizon than other carriers.

Confused really confused. Please help this newbie - does it not stand for Great Personal Service. Is that why the network stands by me?

I voted "aggravated and I am a Verizon customer" but I also did my research and knew that the GPS was disabled. The device had enough other merits that I got it anyway, and I already owned a TomTom.

the last option should be "yes, it aggrevates me that dawg complains more about the people complaining than all the people who are actually complaing put together" you keep bringing this up EVERY chance you get. so what if people are pissed, let them be. is there really a need to start ANOTHER thread for everyone to go on rants about verizon and the GPS? quit milking it for the purpose of increasing your post count and driving everyone nuts.

I would have chosen another answer:
Yes it really aggravates me and I am no longer a Verizon customer now that I know.

All the hype about how VZW has the best network, which I believed; AT&T is fine!

My VZW contract actually expires toward the end of this month, though I was already eligible for the "New in Two" discount. I went ahead and got the curve w/ AT&T, and have forwarded all of my VZW calls to my temporary number. In two weeks, during my 30 day evaluation period, I will transfer my Verizon phone number to my new curve.

Verizon will not get 3 early terminations from me.

I also have Sprint.

Wouldn't it really frost your cookies to buy and house, and after you moved in, find out that the stove in the kitchen was deactivated? Or that only 3 of four bedrooms could be used?

What is the purpose of selling a device with a feature disabled? I saw a custom start up screen someone made for their Verizon RAZR. It said, "Verizon, we never stop charging you!". Now I know what the person meant.

Apples to apples here you are going to walk through the house prior to moving in so you would know it didnt work prior to the move in. I am in that industry i know how that works.

So in the same since had you done a walk through and researched or even test drove you would know it was disabled so your point is MOOT

I am, thankfully, in an area where all four major carriers have great coverage (na na na na boo boo), so I can choose. Verizon does have a great network, but I am always leary of them. I didn't want them for my primary phone, but I am thinking about getting a secondary phone (just for voice) and may pick them up. I do know what I am getting myself in to, as there are advantages and disadvantages. It does bother me that certain features are disabled, but if it bothered me SO much I would not go with them.

Don't be hatin! Looking into something before buying is the point. The house was just an illustration (what are the odds the illustration would have hit on the occupational area of the person starting the post?). It was a general comment and not a specific reply to Dawg.

If a person knew the GPS on Verizon was disabled and still chose to buy it, it was an informed decision.

If Dawg had his priorities in order, and the poopoo poll had been designed correctly in the first place, I would have chosen:

x Where are we going for beer?
