Cool a new app to share your location with other BB (or iphone/android/nokia)

Please Login to Remove!

Alright - so echoecho is finally live. Unfortunately I can't post a link to it because I'm a newbie user of BlackBerryForums - so try m.echoecho.me directly from your phones).

So - you're thinking - what's news? you share your location - so what ??? We can already do that on Blackberries with other blackberry users...

;)

And I know a lot of you know all about latitude, loopt, gowalla, foursquare etc etc...

(first and foremost - there is a version of echoecho on blackberry, iphone, android, nokia symbian and windows mobile so you don't have to worry about what phone your buddy has when you send them an echo)

but the key thing is this - I don't want to broadcast my location. I don't want to be tracked...

I just want to share my location. With specific individuals only. Think of it as more of an SMS (or instant permission-based location sharing) than a twitter feed.

It appears that significant numbers of our beta users so far think likewise.

We decided to streamline the s**t out of the whole process because let's face it - for everyone apart from a group of hardcore users who live on facebook the idea of joining yet another social network is kind of a pain. well ...we already have a social network on our phones...it's called our phone book ;)

Install + full configuration (from the moment you get invited) on blackberry takes just under 60 seconds. It's exceptionally easy to use - I've got parents using it to find their kids - and friends using it to find each other...

We've got push-like functionality on all platforms (and a bunch of other tricks coming up shortly) a fully open API (in both directions) - because we want this to be mashed into as many things as possible. We have avoided complicated user preference screens and profiles entirely - and focused on the core requirement to share location as easily and as quickly as possible.

I also cannot include screengrabs but there are a couple for each platform we support on our getsatisfaction pages)

If anybody wants more information by all means post to this thread or PM me...

Thanks for reading this...

Nick

btw - for all you early adopters - we cut our teeth the hard way on blackberry development - lots of different O/S versions etc to contend with - we are still seeing a minor issue on CDMA 8330 blackberries in the US with O/S version 4.3.0.127...very strange - but all modern O/S versions work fine on all devices tested.

(we even have address book integration so it's as easy to send an echo as it is an SMS)

So here we go

This is the inbox view of the app

This is the map view. Yes. It's google maps of course.

As for the main link to the website itself that's EchoEcho

Enjoy - Nick

BlackBerry help

here's a bunch of simple functions - but it's fairly straightforward stuff - send an echo receive an echo ;)

by all means let us know if there's something else you're curious about.
