Is there anything available for my BB that is similar to Skype? I am mostly interested in the chat feature.

I havent used it in a long time but used to have Iskoot to replace Skype chat.
Have a look and see if its what you looking for.

IM+ Allows you to chat with Skype users. By Shape Services

They also have IM+ Talk which allows you to call over WiFi/Edge/3G (voIP)
