DTEK50 not getting emails on phone signal
Please Login to Remove!
Hello,
My Blackberry Curve 8520 picks up emails on my mobile phone network (EE) without the need to connect to wifi or mobile data.
My new DTEK50 does not seem to pick up emails on my mobile phone network (BT). What am I doing wrong, please?
Thanks,
Maggie

Re: DTEK50 not getting emails on phone signal
you might not have the right data plan
DTEK only needs a standard android data plan

Sorry, I don't understand. What's a data plan, and what is a standard android data plan?

Re: DTEK50 not getting emails on phone signal
Your 8520 uses BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) to access email using the BlackBerry email app and to access other data services. This is the case with all legacy BlackBerry models. So we assume that you have BIS on your line.
If you are using the DTEK on the same line, and if you still have BIS on that line, the best first guess is that BIS is the problem. The BlackBerry Android models and BB10 models use regular mobile data service, not BIS, and sometimes BIS cause problems when the device is one that uses regular mobile data.
What you need to do is make sure the account is switched from BlackBerry BIS to regular mobile data.

Re: DTEK50 not getting emails on phone signal
Thanks, that's very helpful. I'm not sure what you mean by on the same line - my 8520 has an EE SIM card whereas the DTEK has a BT Mobile 750MB Plan SIM.
By 'regular mobile data service' do you mean that I have to 'enable mobile data' to pick up emails? That if mobile data is switched off I won't get emails?
Thanks again

Re: DTEK50 not getting emails on phone signal
Ok. Doesn't sound like BIS is the problem. Were you ever using a legacy BlackBerry device on your BT Mobile account?
By line, I meant the SIM in a case like yours. Some phones do not use SIM cards. What I mean to refer to with the word line is the particular service configured for the particular phone in the event you have an account and multiple phones on that account.
So, what we are after is whether or not it's possible you have BIS on the account for the SIM you are using on BT Mobile.
If the problem isn't BIS, then the next two things to look at are (1) check settings on the phone, make sure you have data turned on, and make sure you have good mobile wireless signal, and (2) check with BT Mobile and make sure your account for that SIM is setup properly and that on their end there is no data problem on your account.
If you still haven't solved the problem, I turn you back over to knottyrope or someone who can help with the android phone.

This may sound too simple but have you configured the email on the phone.

Re: DTEK50 not getting emails on phone signal
You're blowing my mind! I have never used a legacy Blackberry device on my BT Mobile account. My 8520 is on EE (Orange), quite different and separate from BT. The BT mobile account is new to the DTEK. We have a BT landline and two mobiles on my husband's BT account.
I have mobile data switched off, both on my 8520 and the DTEK. The 8520 picks up emails, the DTEK does not, unless I have wifi or switch mobile data on.
What I would like to know is whether or not my DTEK is intended to pick up emails away from home without mobile data enabled?
Thanks again for your help for a silly old lady - sorry to be such a pain!
xx

Re: DTEK50 not getting emails on phone signal
The reason for asking whether you ever used a legacy BlackBerry on the BT Mobile account was for us to know whether BIS could be ruled out or not. We don't know your history. It pays to ask.
I don't remember the details of the network settings on the legacy BlackBerry, but I remember that BB10 is different from BBOS. I would think the Android settings are different, meaning don't use the old BlackBerry as a reference. The legacy BlackBerry was a different animal compared to other smartphones.
I think you have identified the general nature of the problem. I would go back into the mobile wireless and wifi setting on the DTEK and make sure you understand what the settings do.
Generally, you will need mobile wireless network turned on when out and about. This is how you will connect to BT Mobile on the cell network. If you are at a location with wif, you can turn on WiFi and connect to the network, and communicate over the wifi network so long as you are in range of the wifi network.
Drill down in the network settings. You probably have options to turn of data services and leave voice enabled. If phone calls are working and email and browser are not, then what may be the problem is data is turned off.
Also, while looking around, find the roaming settings and check those. You probably aren't roaming now, but you will want to know where the settings are at and what the settings are now.
I'll stop there. Once you begin looking you have more information and maybe questions. Just ask. Someone here can answer.
Be aware I don't use the DTEK. I'm going on general smartphone knowledge. But I don't know details about the DTEK. Someone else here will know.

Re: DTEK50 not getting emails on phone signal
And by the way, this isn't an official BlackBerry forum. In fact, BlackBerry shut down its official user-to-user discussion forum a few weeks ago.
