Default 1 domain two different BES.

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

We are currently in the proces of migrating a customer to our environment. Currently the MX record is still pointing towards their 'old' email server. And the old provider is also hosting their BES.

Since the customer consists out of two departements we are looking at a phased migration during which the following situation will arise:

1. mailboxes devided over two exchange organisations
2. the mx record pointing towards our organization (we are forwarding mail for users that are still on the 'old' exchange organization).

Is it possible two have two blackberry enterprise servers, one in each exchange organization serving the same domain? So users [email address] is on one exchange ogranization and BES and user [email address] is on the other.

I'm not at all sure as to how the blackberry server works in relation to domain / user registration. If it registers a domain to a certain server I recon it won't work but if it registers a specific user to a certain server it might work.

hopefully some one can help me out a bit.

Regards,

Matthijs

You can do that. But when you move from one domain to the other you will have to wipe and EA on the new domain.

Wouldn't it be easier to create one exchange organization with two exchange servers?

Edit: Nevermind - if the two exchange servers don't see each other, then the BES's won't either. It will simply look at the users on the local exchange organization.

I guess the best way to find out is just install the BES on our side and add the domain and a user and test it.

Does anyone see any risk in attempting this? It expect that the BES where a user is last created will be registered with RIM as the server for that user? And all the other users with the same e-mail domain won't notice a thing?

Only risk is getting a bunch of log entries, best to test it knot on a live system.

Users do knot get registered with RIM.

Users with same donaim should not notice anything.

yes you can and it best that they share the same database so you can move from one BES to the other BES with out wipe or EA.
