Default New to BB, messages displays emails and text?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm new to a blackberry. I set up my gmail on imap on my blackberry and on my main home screen there is 2 emails icons one says messages and the other says my gmail address. The weird thing I notice is, if I get an email it puts it in the messages button as well as my gmail email icon. I would think it would put my emails in just my gmail button rather than both....any reason it does this or how to change it?

The messages folder is a catch all for all messages so you cannot stop your email going into both folders. You get used to it after a while though.

You can however set up a separate sms/mms folder by opening messages folder, hit menu key, select options > general options and set the email/sms option to 'separate'.

Hi Ibuddy, Welcome to The Forum. Look around, check the FAQ area and there is no such thing as a dumb question to ask in here (Well almost no such thing).
Thanks!!

Not always true. Depends on how your BES is set up.

I like to hide the individual account folder (I use Google, Army, Yahoo, and ATT...depending on what or whom it is from/for).

More a matter of preference, I guess...

Welcome to BBF (relatively new here as well...)

Correction:
BES = BlackBerry Enterprise Server (for like companies and stuff)
BIS = BlackBerry Internet Service (the internet service typically provided by RIM)

It's provided by RIM, not the individual wireless providers.
