Question unlock procedure for 8300? (got my code)

Please Login to Remove!

I got my unlock code for my Blackberry Curve 8300... What is the procedure for unlocking?

Came across this procedure (and this is also what the at&t person tried to describe to me)... but it appears to be for Pearl (or other device with multitap keyboard)...

Quote:
Power phone on and Turn off the radio (Turn Wireless Off option) VERY IMPORTANT.

Select "Options" and then "Advanced Options"

Scroll down and select "SIM Card"

Type "MEPD" (multitap means this will be typed in [M] [ER] [OP] [OP] [DF])

Type "MEP2" (multitap means this will be typed in [M] [ER] [OP] [OP] alt [TY])

Enter the Unlock Code

Press enter

Reboot device. Device is now unlocked.

thanks

Thumbs up

success!!!

turns out all I had to do was:

1) insert non-at&t sim
2) power on
3) go to "Manage Connections" -> "Turn All Connections Off"
4) go to "Settings" -> "Options" -> "Advanced Options" -> "SIM Card"
5) at blank screen type in "MEPD" (no text appears)
6) then type in "MEP2" (use ALT-2 for the "2")
7) enter unlock code then hit <Enter>
8) Message saying unlock successful should appear
9) Reboot and turn on "Mobile Network" in the "Manage Connections" folder

cheers

Yeah, you don't have to put another SIM in there. Those instructions in the original post are exactly what I got from AT&T directly. I just sent an email to their unlock address with my name and account information and asked for an unlock code. I had done this on my Pearl back in May and I explained that I got a Curve and needed it unlocked too in case I had to travel internationally. I got an unlock code a couple of hours later.

There is a thread about this somewhere on here but make sure to give them:

Phone model (for instructions on how to unlock)
IMEI (very important that this is accurate)
AT&T account #
Company (if applicable)

I assume they want an explanation but I'm not sure. I gave them my reasons both times and it wasn't a problem.

Default Unlock

Does this unlock code work for any 8300? How about an 8310? I have to ask, what good is an unlocked phone? I mean, what does it mean? I have a new krazr from Sprint, but I am now with ATT, is there a way I can unlock it, and if so does anyone know how? Does unlocked mean
i could use it on ATT? Sorry, I am new, but learning.

Thanks!

1) 8310 doesn't exist yet...
2) Krazr on Sprint is a CDMA device and is not compatible with GSM carriers...which means that you can not use it on AT&T or T-Mobile or any North American GSM carrier...

The unlock codes are specific to the IEMI that the code was issued for.

Sprint is CDMA and I have only used GSM carriers. I don't even know if you can unlock a CDMA phone for use on other carriers since they don't use SIM cards, do they? An unlocked GSM phone can be used on any GSM carrier...that's the advantage. Without it being unlocked it can only be used on its branded carrier.

A locked phone can only be used by the original carrier that you signed up with. If you want to switch to another carrier, or if you're going to another country and need to use a SIM that's local to that country and supported by a different carrier, you have to get your phone unlocked so that it can work with any GSM provider.

Just figured I'd let everyone know that I just got my unlock code from ATT for my curve following the instructions above. I emailed them all the info and 3 days later, it was here. Worked like a charm. If you dont need it right away which I didn't, save the $$$.

Thanks again!!!

Ditto that. Just got my confirmation email back after like 3-4 days saying I need to call a number. Probably because they got so many requests all at once, they figured something must be up.

They are on to us. They are requesting that we call AT&T. I think that was an internal address that probably worked for a limited number of requests. No they will not process the request.

Default calling in...

isn't so bad. My email got the "call us" response. I called this morning. Was told I'd have the code SMS'd to me by 8/20. But I got the email with the code this afternoon. Pretty easy.
