I dont know how accurate this tmo rep was at a corporate store by madison avenue and 52nd street but he even showed me a picture containing all 3 colors for the " KOMET " aka Pearl 2 and he said it will be launching the first to second week of september.

There's a post on BoyGenius today that says those 3 "new" Pearls T-Mobile is releasing next month are just the original Pearl in 3 new colors. Nothing different besides the color.

For those worried about the colour... it is supposed to be "titanium", a darker, more muted metallic colour than the current silver Curve. It is not gold, though the hero shots in PR do make it look that way. It's just the lighting and probably some horrid image compression.

If you look at the "exclusive" confidential slides leaked on pinstack, you'll see the colour is actually grayish metal as opposed to gold.

I tried to confirm this with my Federal RIM rep, but as always, they can't talk about future releases. However, based on what I've seen, it will be gray.

UMA only refers to the ability to use your cell phone to talk over a WiFi based network. That means that rather than speaking through a GSM tower, your voice is being routed through your internet connection instead.

The slides over on Pinstack say that the data access on the phone also has least-cost routing which means that it will also use your WiFi internet access for web browsing, media streaming and things like that rather than using more expensive (for the phone operator) GPRS/EDGE bandwidth. You benefit by getting your information downloaded much faster as well since it would be going across a cable modem or DSL connection.

While I have no inside information, I cannot imagine T-Mobile releasing its version of the Curve with wi-fi in GOLD. I have to believe the prior poster who says its just a bad pic and is more of a titanium color. Titanium makes much more sense.

are you sure? I thought those were two different models... a "gold" and a "grey" one...

The leaked slides had one slide of the "grey" one by itself while displaying another slide with the "gold" (the now soon to be released 8320 on TMO USA) next to a pearl and 8800.

Anyways I hope it is true because the color is nasty from the looks of the PR shoots...

AH HA! I found what I was talking about...

The grey one appears in the 8310 slide while the still golish color, which Im beginning to call champagne, is located on the slide with the phones that have WiFi (slide title is "WiFi enabled BlackBerry handhelds")

Looks to me that the 8320 will be champagne colour like it or not.

Well I believe we will see very poor sales for that version then. Not a very good move to release your 'big deal' wifi version curve in a color that limits its potential buyer base as much as that will. Oh well. ATT here I come ;p

I'm pretty doubtful that it's going to be champagne or gold in colour. That would alienate a vast majority of BB users and would probably see a negative reaction from T-Mobile's user base. After all, someone in Bellevue must realize how many people want this handset...

However, if you look here: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...007/8320-1.jpg

... you'll see that the colour does in fact look gray. I have a funny feeling it's just horrible image compression playing tricks on us. Especially, if you compress and resize certain colours in a restricted palette, it tends to try and match it, and, et voila... ugly champagne. Gotta love PowerPoint.

It's all speculation, of course, until we see final proof from T-Mobile. But, this sort of "making a decision for me" mentality would push me to AT&T if the only available colour was champagne.

[Though, reading an additional post on BGR just now, it appears Pearl 1.0 is re-debuting(!?) in added colours. I'll hope they keep the colours on the Pearl and leave the 8800/8300 to us businessfolk.]

One more thing... [no pun intended, given I am mentioning Apple here...]

When the Titanium PowerBook G4 was introduced (and was painted that gray colour), some "hero" shots -- depending on lighting -- did discolour in a similar fashion.

I think it's just the light. Even the Pearl 1.0 re-colourised images leaked look a little funny.

I'm confident that the color will be just fine. I'm still wanting the T-Mobile Blackberry over the AT&T. Perhaps someone who wants the silver look would be interested in swapping me for my unlocked AT&T totally configured and working on T-Mobile service for the new model? ;)
