Default Sim Card to Phone

Please Login to Remove!

How do you transfer the data from a sim card onto a phone and vice versa.
The reason i ask is that, i've just upgrade my 8100 to a 8120, and some of the data/contact have not transfered onto my new phone.
What i want to do is put my sim back into the 8100 and see if i can transfer any data/contact onto the sim and then put the sim back into my 8120.

Regards

Keith

Why don't you just use the DeskTop manager to backup the device and restore to the new device? It will carry everything including messages.

While that is not ideal way to move your data from a BB to BB, it can be done.

While in the Addressbook, you can copy one contact at time back to the SIM card. Once all on the SIM card, click menu to SIM Phone Book, and copy ALL to the new BB.

The ideal manner would be to use the Switch Device Wizard, if all your contacts were in the BB Address Book.

Or sync your old BB to MS Outlook or an ASCII text file and the resync to load the new BB.

At least the Backup Restore function will work also.

Hey JS! Hope all is well with you. What are the differences between switch device and backup/Restore? I am just curious of the advantages as I have used the backup/restore on a replacement device and if I need to do it again I should probably use switch device.

eh, I moved from a 8800 to 8310 this past w/end and used backup/restore AND the third-party backup detailed here> How do I backup my Third Party Applications on my BB? - BlackBerryFAQ

It is a little more complicated, but you have better control this way^^.

I have also moved several BBs from one to another using the Switch Device Wiz, and it worked fine also. However, starting with the 8320, a number of users noticed some old settings were being pulled over from the old BB to the 8320 which screwed up the WiFi UMA settings on the new device... so.

Another mod here advised the Switch Device Wizard could be TOO generic for some moves, and "could" move problems you were having with the old device. But I think it probably will do just fine for most.

Ok, well I will consider it for my next upgrade. Still thrilled with my Pearl but may get another when GPS finally comes to AT&T. Thanks for the guidance!
