bold / google maps / my location
Please Login to Remove!
i brought down Google Maps to the bold and it works fine. EXCEPT
today i clicked My Location
i then get the following message:
Your current location is temporarily unavailable.
Waiting for GPS.
(i thought this worked on my 8820, but i'm not 100% sure.)
i tried My Location in several places with good 3G signal, and i think GPS is supposed to work with bold. any ideas appreciated. thx

GPS is supposed to work on the bold yes!
Do you have any other GPS programs on your bold? (ie. Telnav, BB Maps...)
and
Have you tried to reload the google maps yet?
I use all three and they work wonders on my bold. No issues here.

nope, and nope. a much smarter (than me) friend suggested carefully exiting (via Close) google maps then relaunching. interestingly, i clicked menu bar, chose Exit, then waited a while and relaunched google maps. some arrows action started (in black) and has come on and off a time or two. at the top right in gray i see "Updating location". that's been showing a couple of minutes now, with occasion additional arrows action in black. would be great if things sorted themselves out somehow. will report later if they do. and thx
UPDATE. after all the "Updating location" (and black arrows action) stopped, i tried again clicking menu bar, then My Location, and i again got (sigh):
Your current location is temporarily unavailable.
Waiting for GPS.

If I were you I would remove the program and reinstall it...
Settings>Advanced Options>Applications>*Find Google Maps and click delete*
After deleting, restart phone and reinstall the app from google.

sorry no, i don't have any ideas. i did not download anything called "google apps" to my bold. instead, after uninstalling google maps and restarting (to complete the unstall), i navigated on bold's browser to m.google.com and then chose Maps and then downloaded that, with disappointing result pasted above
good luck.
ps, i did some searching to see if there might be a beta 3-like version of yahoo go! that might work for bold, but no luck so far, and indications i saw were nothing from yahoo go! is ready for bold yet

zero. each time i downloaded and installed google maps, i found it instead as an icon in the Downloads folder. i then right-clicked the google maps icon, chose Move to Folder, and then selected (i think) Home to move it onto the handheld's desktop (or whatever the main screen is called)

Sorry to hear your having so much trouble with google maps. I'm running it on my bold with no problems. I downloaded from Google Maps. Using handheld browser Once downloaded I opened google maps and scrolled to bottom and clicked accept. Went to settings and refreshed the GPS. It gives me my location within 3 meters. My two cents.
Good luck.

i had to do the same thing on my curve when i first got it.
go to options > advanced options > make sure GPS data source is set to device GPS, GPS services is set to location ON, and wait for it to show your coordinates, after which when you go to google maps it should take a few seconds then display your location as a blue dot with no ambiguity circle

Here is what I think you should do...
Click HERE and try downloading another GPS program to your device. If non of these apps works, there may be somthing wrong with your devices GPS locator. If these do work you are having another issue completely. *User Error* lol Semi kidding.

Just had a thought. My blackberry unlimited tariff hasnt kicked in yet, hopefully overnight tonight. I am downloading all my info through my home wifi. Would this be causing google maps to hang? I have just tested my GPS and it is fixing on sats and giving my position. Seems to be my BB hating what I'm downloading?!

Your BB Plan is not turned on yet? If thats what I assume you mean, then yes that is the issue. You can not do ANY with out that, aside from talk/text/BT and WiFi.

In that case i'll wait til tomorrow and see what happens. Thank you all for your input and if it is as simple as this then I'm sorry for wasting your time. This forum is great by the way and if i get past this hurdle I'll be back to tap you all up for cool ways to use my Bold.

Also, I think it works better if you are outside. Sometimes I get the message when I am inside a building.
