Getting a new Sprint SIM?

My 8830 was stolen in Europe. I paid $50 deductible for Ausrion (SPCS's insurance company) and received a replacement 8830. The ins. co did not ship the 8830 with a SIM card and now claim that the SIM is an accessory and won't replace it. Sprint said that should not be my cost since I should have a working phone of similar quality and the 8830 without a SIM card won't work abroad. So SPCS agreed to send me a new SIM for free. I just got it and they sent a Nextel SIM card that does not appear to work in my phone.
Bottom line- does anyone know if SPCS sells the SIM cards separately or how I could go about getting a new one? Also, does anyone know what model or type of SIM card it is? The SPCS reps seem clueless.
Thanks,
