Is it possible to play videos on the Blackberry 8270 either streaming or directly from the device?

The only possible solution I found is using the Sun J2ME Mobile Media APIs which provide support for MPEG-1, but I did not try to get this running on a Blackberry so far. Had anybody success doing so?

Are there other solutions out there?

Yes there should be a way to do it via software ( i.e. a java app ).

I dont think that the blackberry has the graphics/cpu power to complete this task, no matter how small the mpeg is.

I would love to see someone create a online photo album sort of thing, where maybe even you can download the pictures and use them as your screensaver..

Guess -- Klaus Thiel created that little open source screensaver application that can do this if you're willing to do a bit of messing around with the JDE. It should be possible to automate the process, but I am not equipped to handle that task. If someone feels comfortable with building the web interface, I would be happy to collaborate and work it into Klaus' application.
