...by how many devices are coming out one after another?
This may be just a personal gripe, but i remember back when i'd have a device that was "current" for at least....well, awhile.
don't get me wrong, i'm not complaining about the quality devices that seem to be coming out or soon to be coming out, but i hate that feeling of not loving my blackberry as much anymore when i see the latest and greatest "being released in a few months..."
know what i mean??
haha...just thought i'd vent for a sec. i'm just waiting for a device that has the SD slot/camera/qwerty keyboard/and is CDMA....

If you're with sprint isn't this not that big an issue? It's been like 7 months since the 8703e came out. That's a decent gap IMO

frustrated
I am. I have a 8700g which I love and has only been out for a year. With all the new stuff coming out, I don't know what to buy. Plus, its not really worth it considering the 8800 has the same processor and screen as the 8700. The only difference is a media player. I don't really care about the media player.

Actually, I am glad they bringing out new stuff.
It may also because the iPhone is comming out so they want to make as much money as possible so they in a hurry to bring out the new phones.

It's fine for me. You sound like a frustrated 8800 buyer who now wishes he waited patiently for the 8300.
I like having choices. I hope RIM continues to churn out models.

I disagree with you there. I don't think the iPhone will be a threat to RIM. The expectation, at least in the first iteration, is that businesses will not buy "media/Internet" devices, with phones, for their business employees...and RIM has the market on business PDAs. I think it's apples and oranges (so to speak).

I am pretty happy that they are rolling out new devices regularly. Its been a nice to switch devices every 2 years and get something that is keeping up with the times. Now, would I like to buy the latest everytime it comes out? sure, but have to exercise some willpower. I imagine RIM devices will (or have) become like PCs, as soon as you buy yours, a better one comes out.

The iPhone will be more of a toy than anything else IMHO. Sure the younger generation will suck them up and some of us babyboomers might also. However, the business world and government world will most likely stick to the BB. It works, it isn't broke, so there is really no need to fix it with the iPhone or similar gadget.

Not frustration here, happiness. More phones means more options. No longer "just" a business phone, RIM is evolving to compete with the ever growing smart phone market. RIM got their OS stable unlike the WM phones which had a lot of options right from the get go but stability has always been an issue. RIM perfected their craft first before saturating the market with their device. It comes down to quality over quantity. That's just my .02 cents.

At least they still support older models and don't force you to upgrade. That is unless you want the new features. I have a few clients sill using the 957 and it works from them just fine.
Rim could be like M$ and retire the models but they don't.

You have to remember RIM has devided now to consumer / prosumer. The Pearl, obvious consumer - released in Sep/Oct, I forget. The 8800, obvious prosumer - released in Feb. Now The Curve, again consumer - coming soon, thus far 8 to 9 months after the Pearl came out, if you ask me, that's a long time.

The only thing that frustrates me is that there's no 3g/hsdpa device yet.

i can agree with you on the 8703 model that's been out for awhile...
so maybe i should rephrase..
i'm a little frustrated with how many devices are coming out that have this feature and that feature, but not this feature. but then, cingular will have a device that has that missing feature, but not the others....
i'd like for there to be a little more consistency between the new models that are coming out.
once again, i'm DEFINITELY excited for all of them, just wish one came out that i DEFINITELY want.

Is this a real corporate division or based on slotting devices released? For example, I am a professional, but I would like also like WiFi and maybe a camera. Although phones are not allowed to be turned on where I work (court), when I leave that enviorment I want a single device that has as many features as possible. I do not want to have to carry 2 devices. On vacation I also want a single device. Do most people also carry a second device with a BB? Since I am new to the BB, maybe this is something I should consider.
In your opinion, what makes the 8800 a prosumer - more professional than the 8300?

Yes....its IS annoying to me that more and more devices are coming out. The problem to me is not that the devices are coming out. My problem is that each new, supposedly updated and improved BB that comes out, is missing ONE major feature.
8800 No camera but has GPS
83XX no GPS but has camera
It is really starting to make me angry. Where the hell is my: Slim, BB with GPS, Camera, 3G, expansion card device?

Phones/Devices are just like any other piece of electronics... You plop on in to best buy and purchase the latest greatest PC... By the time you get home and unpack it, set it up and connect to the net to re look at the features it's on sale because in the last 30 minutes they have released 3 newer latest and greatest...
You buy a 8mp camera and it's top of the line... You run home a take photos with it, you return to get a case for it 2 days later and ask the sales person for a case for model xxxx... he says that was last weeks model and we no longer carry accessories for that old of a camera.....
BB's are actually released far less often than most electronic devices / gadgets .... BUT that's my .02 worth...
