Service books problem.
Please Login to Remove!
Hi everybody! I have a problem with my Service books and even my Operator can't help me. Geolocation menu is inactive, shows Wireless interface: N/A, also under GPS menu "Location data" is missing. If I delete "BlackBerry Maps (Lbs Config)" service book everything is fixed except teh Maps menu under Options-Advanced. It says Default Service: None. So there must be a conflict between Geolocation, GPS and BBMaps. How can I fix that? The operator told me to clear any previous IT Policy by Reset to factory under CMD in Windows. I did that, but when I generate report in the Geolocation menu it says: IT Policy: Enabled?!? I'm stuck here with this annoying problem and cannot figure otu how to solve it. Will be very grateful, if someone can help me. Thank you in advance! Regards!

A search or browsing the BlackberryFAQ link above would have shown you:

How exactly did you do Reset To Factory in Command Prompt? Did you install JL_Cmder?

Once it has finished, go to Options > Security Options > General Settings and scroll to the bottom. What does it show under Services?

Did you follow my link i put in my reply?
Did you follow both methods?
Just saying you tried jlcommander and bbsak is not enough info. What exactly did you try? We cant see your screen or jump in your head and just know what you did or did not do.

OK. Now under Options-Security-Firewall the Firewall button is greyed out with a lock icon. Under Security options-Information it says ***no services*** and Security enabled, Secure GC Enabled.
The Geolocation report is a little bit different, but again with IT Policy: Enabled:

Hey, I did attempt 2!!! The result is above. I loaded policy.bin on my phone as you said, but the problem still stays.
Infact attempt 2 added ITPolicy to the phone. I had to use JL_Cmder one more time to remove them. The status of IT Policy could be cheched easily: Options-Status and type BUYR. The last row shows if it is Enabled or Disabled. Loading policy.bin to the phone forces IT Policy to Enabled. Tried twice. So this method didn't work for me. Obviously there must be some IT Policy only for Geolocation, which is very strange. I still think it is something related to a service book conflict.

So did you load it to your phone (not correct, you do not copy policy.bin to your phone), or did you follow this step in the process exactly?
Quote:
From the Windows Start Menu select Run..., and at the prompt type regedit. In the tree on the left hand side, navigate to:
HKEY_Current_Users\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\PolicyManager
Right-Click the Policy Manager Folder and select New/String Value. Name the value Path. Now, Double-Click the Path Subkey and set Value Data to:
C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\policy.bin
|
Im guessing you copied the file to your phone

I did not copy the file to my phone. Followed the instructions and did everything right. Did it twice with the same result. The file forced IT Policy to Enabled. Anyway, now my IT Policy is Disabled as they were. It is Enabled only for the Geolocation Service. Can you confirm your Geolocation service works fine?

My gps works just fine.
Can you tell me how you are getting this geolocation report? 3rd party app?

No, I am not talking about GPS. Geolocation is built-in service. Go to Options-Geolocation. There you can see your Wireless Interface, Agent status, Data collection, Memory Usage.
To generate report just hit the Menu button and choose Generate report.

I dont have Geolocation in my options, but i am using a 9700 not a 9000. When i google geolocation service, i find many references to 3rd party software is why i asked that.

Hmm, very strange. 9550 has it too. Is your BlackBerry Carrier branded? If so this option may not be available. My was Vodafone branded, but I debranded it and got all the functionality and hidden and locked features.
