Default Is camera synced to the GPS?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, when I take photos is there some way to embed the GPS location of the photo. I would like to take photos with my storm and have them placed on a map and I was thinking since this Storm has a built in GPS is there some way of doing this?

Thanks.

laplaya,

newer digital cameras are now offering this function. I think you can convert older cameras that don't have the option with a SIM card with this capability.

I believe you are asking a little much out a cellular phone. Just buy a digital camera which will also have much better picture quality then the Storm. I think it will provide for a better overall experience. Especially if you are a world traveler. The camera won't have carrier issues as well when you cross seas and enter different continents.

Yep. Go into your camera application, hit Menu (BlackBerry Key)>Options. Go to Geotagging and select Enabled.

Geotagging simply tags the photo itself with the GPS coordinates of where the particular photo was taken.

I could see this function having business / military applications but for the average user I am really wondering what it would be valuable for other than for novelty purposes.

I guess you could use a mapping program to show on a map where all your photos were taken on a European vacation if you were railing it across Europe.

The option is there, but does it work? I haven't tried it with my last 2 or 3 beta OS updates, but before, when I did try it, it didn't actually work. I.e. You could set the option, but the pictures taken still didn't have the Geotagging info in them.

StuartV,

how do you know for sure. Do you have a program that actually reads and displays evidence of geotagging?

Try one of these free downloads to check and let us know!

it would be neat to have them geotagged, and be able to open it up with google maps or something. maybe there is a way.

Hello everyone, ugh, 1st post is always the hardest,
got my first BB a week ago, struggling to love it,
well, back on topic.

I see there aren't many Mac users here. One of this years upgrades in iPhoto app, called 'Places' uses coordinates from metadata and allows a user to check for photos in a way, displayed on this screenshots

(You'll have to fix the URLs because I don't have 10 posts.)

As far as Windows platform goes I can't really suggest anything.

Great forum,
have fun,
L

Ok, I did as you suggested, but for some reason my Options do not include anything that says Geotagging, so I am unable to select Enabled.

Exactly why I want to be able to geotag my photos, partly just for the novelty purpose, and partly because Flickr has a mapping ability to place your photos on a map. I do a lot of vacation travelling and would love this feature if I could get it to work. It would be neat to see my map and my photos embedded into it.

It's been my experience that another program has to have the GPS turned on for the geotagging to work. I usually run BBmaps.

i could have used that last year
took a 3400 mile road trip through 13 states,
can imagine the pics,
many dont recall where the heck i was,
nice to have geotagging for reference later.

Having Geo-Tagging is great if you get in a car accident, you can take a few photos that will have the exact location and time of the accident should you need to argue anything w/ insurance companies or in court.
