Default bold CPU Vs. curve CPU

Please Login to Remove!

The bold's CPU is listed as an intel Xscale 624MHz and the curve as a marvel 512MHz CPU. as we all know intel no longer makes Xscale processors because marvel bought them out. so both of these processors are from the same chip maker. i would like to know the following, is the curve CPU built on the same Xscale architecture? and which one is more powerful? i have heard that the 512 MHz curve is twice as powerful as the 624MHz bold... is that true?

512MHz Marvell processor
Intel XScale 624 MHz processor

honestly i think they are about the same speed, the added RAM in the curve helps alot with the processing imho

When both devices are connected via EDGE, I found the Bold to be marginally better (faster) than the 8900. I get slightly more "revolving clock" in the 8900. But, it's close.

That being said, I believe a lot of the need for processor speed difference comes into play when the Bold is running on 3g. 3g takes a lot of processing power to process the incoming data (which is why the 8707 had many, many problems). So, that being said, comparing the Bold on 3g vs the 8900 on EDGE is not a fair comparison. The 8900 might even be smoother in that scenario (aside of the obivious 3g speed advantage of the incoming data).

fair enough, sounds like a good wrap up to that conversation.
i was just wondering if the 8900 was more powerful than the 9000, i guess not and i now know why....
man u guys in america are lucky, i tend to use my bold on 2.5G instead of 3G (conserve battery), i just wish the UK had good EDGE coverage as well, instead of the awful GPRS.

Well, now that the 8900 is my "new favorite thing in the world" , and my old Bold is so October, I don't even use it any more (until I go to Japan) - but, I never used 3g anyway, because of conserving battery. EDGE in US is more than sufficient.
