Maybe smaller carriers, but don't think for a minute Verizon or Sprint will pass on a BB model when BBs are selling so well. The 9000 series is months away, even for GSM.

Their answer was no, but that in about one week's time, Bell will be launching the CDMA BB 8130 Pearl.
Take this for what it's worth. (No sarcasm intended.)

Hey ArgonNJ,
I do know that the BB 8130 is the Pearl, not the Curve.
If you read this thread from the beginning, you will find that ROOFUS was asking if BELL MOBILITY or TELUS would be carrying the CDMA BB 8130 Pearl. I was trying to be helpful by passing on the latest info relative to the Pearl.

Sprint doesn't get the new ones first. They get cool normal phones, but when it comes to PDA style phones like WM and BlackBerries, they are behind all of the GSM carriers. If you want to get all the new upper end devices first, you sure as heck would not be with Sprint OR Verizon.

8330 for Telus
Hi - i'm new here... Waiting to buy my very first BB - Been looking for info on a Curve 8330 for Telus. I have seen info on it being a GSM and CDMA combo - like the 8830 - but then I am also reading it's not going to be a crossover - so what is the verdict... will be it a combo or not?
I called Telus last night - to try and get some more info - the customer service guy patched me thru to a data guy - who then went and asked a data tech - Apparently the 8330 will be available in "3 months or so" I wasn't conviced this was factual - could very well have been a Telus rep trying to keep me waiting patiently- but I remain hopeful. When I called RIM corperate office they were honest and said they couldn't tell me anything becasue they are a publicly traded company. God - I wish the release stuff wasn't so secretive...
If anyone has details on the 8330 I would love to read them
Cheers

One advantage of being on CDMA in the BB world is that when the models are released, they have some improvements over their older GSM cousins. The 8130 Pearl is a perfect example.

That sounds about right. With the exception of the 8830, that came out relatively fast.

So, I will wait 6 months for the upgraded version of the GSM model, then wait another 6 months for the NEXT generation model. Upgraded or not, CDMA is still behind everyone else. They just get their upgraded version LATE. By the time it comes out, its value is not as great because we all know the next generation will be in a couple of months from that. No matter how you slice it, you are still always behind.

I bought the 8830 when it came out and then was in Verizon store on the 8th trying to get the new Pearl. I was going to have to pay full retail because I wasn't a year into it yet. The sales guy "who carries a BB" tried to talk me into waiting for the curve that would be coming next year.

Huh??
Let me get this right... You were going to switch to at&t, but the only thing that kept you from it was your current contract? Not the fact that you WORK for Sprint? So you would have switched to your competitors product instead of your own because they have a different phone available? I'm glad you don't work for me. It would take too long to process all the termination paperwork...
BTW, you're profile shows you as an at&t customer. Might want to change that before your boss sees it.
