Default SQL server permissions at setup vs day to day?

Please Login to Remove!

Durring the BES setup, there are permissions (admin rights) needed...

Once the DB and all is setup, can those admin rights be removed for normal Day to day operations?

If you are asking whether you can remove the BES account permission from SQL the answer is no unless you set additional rights on your SQL server that was not necessary for the setup. The BES account needs specific rights to the SQL database and not necessarilt to the server itself. These specific rights are required for day to day operation if that is what you are asking.

On day to day operations the BES account needs read/write access and (important!) the execute permission on all stored procedures within the BESmgmt database.

If you use v4.1 and are about to create administrator users the BES account alson needs the permission to create users and extend permissions for these users.

Ok, I think I'm getting confused by the v4.0 install guide.. on page 11 it talks about... "SQL Server role: Server Administrators, Database Creators"

But that is just while doing the install so the DB can be created on the SQL server by the BES install process, right?

And after the install, the Server Administrators can be removed?

Um. Anyone have a link to the idiot's guide for installing a BES 4.0 from scratch???

To easy: idiots should not install a BES

Just read the install.pdf very carefully which is sometimes confusing to read, but still is the best installation guide.

After the install, the Server Administrators and the DB creator permission can be removed.

You can actually downgrade permissions from:-

(1) Server Admin -> System Admin
(2) DB Creator -> DB Owner

However, during any upgrade, remember to turn the permission back for smooth installation process...
