I want to upgrade my current Blackberry to the 8120, so I can use the WiFi to surf internet without a data plan. When I called AT&T they said a data plan is required on the 8120 to use the WiFi feature. T-Mobile users have said that they dont need a data plan, does the same go with AT&T? It doesnt make sense, and yet the service provider should know what they are talking about..
Without a data plan, you can use the Wifi/Hotspot Browser to surf the internet. However, most applications that use an internet connection will not work and email and other BlackBerry functions will NOT work.
I have AT&T. How do I set up my blackberry 8120 to get out to the web using wifi. I can't get it to work.
Can anyone help. I don't want to make wifi calls just use the internet at home and maybe at hot spots to retrieve e-mails now and again. I don't want to purchase a data plan from AT&T. My computer is wifi and I don't need a data plane to use it at hot spots why do I need a data plane to use AT&T. I paid full price for the phone and now AT&T tells me that to use wifi I need to pay $35. per monthe to use the wifi. It searches and finds my router which is linksys but won't pull a page. I even have bellsouth dsl. What gives with AT&T. My husband has T-Mobile and he can use his blackberry curve that is wifi and doesn't need to have a data plan
New question on this topic. I just got the 8120 (upgraded from the 8100) for the wifi. I don't have a data plan, either. The phone finds our router at home, but fails to connect with the message "failed to obtain an IP address" or sometimes "failed to connect to network". I live in Southern California and we have the Verizon fios service so it's their router. I've checked and made sure that the ssid, wep key, security key, etc is correct. Any ideas?
Up...never mind. It's working!
