I am upgrading from the a BB 9000 to 9800. I am trying to figure out what the best way to do the transfer. I am on a BES server. I would not want to transfer any of the apps. Is there a way of only transferring my settings (profiles, autotext) from the 9000 to 9800? Should I first setup the new 9800 to my BES server and then sync it to my desktop? Or should I just start from scratch?
First of all, you might want to check with the BES Admin to see what he/she thinks of the idea or if they will even allow it. I am not certain BES fully supports OS 6 devices right now. Perhaps one of our BES Admins can answer that question.
Ask the BES Admin to update their vendor.xml and device.xml files, and then give you a new enterprise activation password. Activate as you would a normal new device and your settings will restore themselves.
Stupid question, where do I get the updated vendor.xml and device.xml files? We are running BES ver. 5.0.
Thanks.

The following article KB13589-How to update the device.xml and vendor.xml files states: If I am on BES 5.0, the BlackBerry Administration Service will automatically connect to the internet using a secure connection to Research In Motion's BlackBerry.com website to download the latest device.xml and vendor.xml files every hour.
If I understand that correctly, I shouldn't have to do anything. Am I correct? How can I verify?
BES 5.0 SP1. My 9800 activation completed in less than 10 mins, and device/model was detected and showed up for me in the BAS as it should. I think the auto-update for the device.xml works for 5.0 BES in most cases.
