Thumbs down Duplicate contacts after new Enterprise Activation

Please Login to Remove!

We have a user here that was recently activated on a Curve 8310, after EA completed we noticed that his contacts were duplicated. I have confirmed that his contacts are not duplicated in OUTLOOK so I am rather confused as to why switching devices could have caused this.

I have not tried removing the account from the BES and adding it back for the sole fact that this user has over 100 bookmarks and so many call logs.

This is a high priority user for us so any help is greatly appreciated (as always)

Thanks

J

Just a suggestion, but maybe disable the wireless contact sync option, then wipe out the BB's contacts via the desktop manager. After thats done, i'd back up the user's current OL contacts to PST (just in case) then re-enable the wireless contact sync on the BB.

Thanks, I appreciate the suggestion but I am hoping for a BES related answer. We don't use the desktop manager at all as we find it causes conflicts with the BES.

I do appreciate the suggestion!

Understandable, i'm not a fan of the DM either. Though I don't know of any other process aside from a security wipe that will clear a certain handheld database.....unless you're willing to manually delete the duplicates from the device side of things :/

Any idea why this would have just happened? And why they are not duplicated in outlook? Do you think a removal of the account from the BES / add and activate will resolve the issue??

Hy jnetter,
did you solve the problem? Because we have a user with a recently activated device, too. And here are the same issue that the contacts are all duplicated and also the calendar entries.

The user had a defective device which was replaced by our carrier. After the data restore i had to activate the device on the bes.
I suppose that the bes activation did not recognized that the adressbook is already on the device and pushed it again to it. So that the device saved them twice, locally.

Has anybody a hint how i could remove the duplicate entries in the adressbook and the calendar?

You could back up the user's calendar on their desktop, then delete the calendar from their email profile, and then create a new calendar. Wipe out the calendar on the device, and then reload the saved calendar back into the user's calendar on their desktop, and then let the sync process take over.

I did, our user had a sublist in his contacts that was an exact replica of the main contacts list, hence the duplicate entries.

Thanks Everyone.

It probably happened because when the device was activated, the BES didn't recognize the contacts on the BB as being exactly the same ones as in the Outlook address book. Does all information match EXACTLY? If the user was not syncing via Desktop Manager, how did s/he get the contacts on the BB? That's the only way I can think of that they would have been transferred exactly. If the same contacts were entered in manually, it would probably not recognize them as being the same.

IIRC the last time I did this, I was able to wipe the device and do enterprise activation to solve this type of issue. Call logs and other settings are automatically backed up on the BES and will be restored to the device. That would definitely fix this. I wouldn't think deleting/re-adding the user in BES would have any effect on the issue.

EDIT: on second thought, if the Outlook calendar now contains the items, they probably have to be deleted manually, the device wiped, and another EA done. Unless there is a backup of the calendar or you have a version without duplicates somewhere.
