Telcel BIS modem
Please Login to Remove!
Hey guys, is anyone using his blackberry as a modem in Mexico with Telcel as his carrier. I have done this myself but always with a charge per KB, I called Customer Care but they don’t know anything about blackberry, very poorly trained people! Anyway I hope someone can point me in the right direction, I use this APN setting:
APN: internet.itelcel.com
Username: webgprs
Password: webgrps2002
I was thinking that perhaps there is an APN specific for the BIS, which I found out is internet.blackberry.com but don’t know the username and password, hopefully there is someone out there that can help me with this situation, I think once you set up this APN you can see youtube videos on line in your BB, BTW I have a full BIS Plan

Chuy,
I'm also with Telcel and let me tell ypu that there are two different data channels: one for BIS that doesn't let to use masive data usage aplications (youtube or modem as you want) and other using APN that let use anything.
I use my Bold as modem but I pay MEX$ 379.00 additional to my BIS and Voice plans. Bad news is that when you reach 3 GB of usage in your cicle speed is down from 1.5 mbps to 128 kbps.

Mr. jchavez, thanks for your fast response, those 379.00 are for the concept of what? is it for the wireless internet service, the one they sell you the USB adapter and you can connect to the internet anywhere? Or how do I ask for the service? Thanks, have a good week!

Hi guys. Glad to hear from fellow telcel users. Depending on which plan you use, is what you pay and what you get. I bet jchaves is on a GSM plan, am I right? I, for example am under a "+X- Blackberry full internet" and do not pay those mxp$ 379 extras AND I do get to stream vids from youtube. The conection sucks, but it's telcel after all. The catch is that after 500mb per billing cycle, my connection reverts to low speed. Check those plans and see if they are good for you. For me it works wonders because in adition I get 6 numbers to which I can talk for free for 5 mins.

Wirelessly posted
That's the plan I'm on, how do you stream from you tube? Can't been able to do that ever. I have a friend who has that plan as well and can connect to the internet in his laptop using his bb as a modem without any extra charge (he only pays the "+X- full BIS" of course, as you stated before, he has a very good speed until he reaches 500mb of transfer data and the speed drops down to 256kbs or 128kbs something like that, this friend of mine does not know how to configure the modem because he went to a service center "centro de atencion" and they configured his laptop, my issue is that I can't go to the service center because my bb is a 8320 and telcel does not sell this model, basically I'm on my own (and with you guys) thanks to all

Hi again.
To use youtube:
If you are already have that plan and you have a capable blackberry, then what you have to configure your APN settings by going to options -> advanced options -> TCP/IP and type internet.itelcel.com and leave the username and password blank. This is as per Telcel's instructions. Hope it works for you.

Never done that and I have no idea how. Sorry. The only thing I can think of is for you to call telcel's costumer service line and tell whichever jerk that takes your call that you need to tether your bb and to please guide you on the phone. Say you can't go to a service center because there isn't one near where you live, and say that you have an 8310, which is the most similar to your 8320 that they offer support to. If they are as helpful as usual (not much at all) ask them to give you the phone number of the company that supports blaclberries in Mexico (no, there's no RIM here). They were really helpful to my brother when he forgot his BIS provisioning login and pw, and they don't care what model you have because that happened on an 8300 way back when telcel didn't have those. If that fails, repeat the first thing, only email them instead of calling. Maybe they already have the info you need in writing, and they'll attach it for you. Good luck.

Hey Chuy,
After a hard search of "how to use the black berry bold as a modem" I finally got an answer and now I can use my bb 9000 as a modem with Telcel as carrier.
Here are the steps that I followed to setup my bb as a modem.
1. You have to install the BB Desktop Manager.
2. You have to be sure that you setup your APN on your phone (internet.itelcel.com is the one for telcel).
3. On Windows XP click on Start - Control Panel - Phone and Modem Options.
4. Then click on the "Modems" tab and then select the "Standar Modem", thats the one that use your Blackberry, after that click on "Properties", then click on the "Advanced" tab.
5. On "Extra initialization commands" you must type this: at+cgdcont=1,"ip","internet.itelcel.com" then click Ok and close the tabs
6. Setup a dial-up connection and use *99# as a phone number (leave blank the username and password).
7. Connect to internet =D
I hope you can get it run.

Do they charge you for that? I mean, I don't want to pay telcel extra money for an already expensive service. I want to use my Curve as a modem but I don't want to pay more for it.
Oh, and I still can't get youtube to work. I have 4.5 version and the internet.itelcel.com thing added on TCPIP
Thanks in advance
Oscar

Hey, just reladed the OS using java loader command line as listed here;
Blackberry storm won't turn on (Light flashing red 2 times) - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com
because it would not come up at all after an upgrade.
also corrected your link above to telcel.com. not itelcel.com, now my flipberry 8220 browses the net again.
