Default Mass storage issues

Please Login to Remove!

I'm having an odd problem getting mass storage working with my BB and OpenSuse 11.1

When I plug the BB into the PC, I'm prompted to activate mass storage mode. Saying "Yes" sort of works, but not really:

Quote:
Feb 7 21:59:27 jcamd64 kernel: [35089.589076] usb 1-10: Product: RIM Composite Device
Feb 7 21:59:27 jcamd64 kernel: [35089.589081] usb 1-10: Manufacturer: Research In Motion
Feb 7 21:59:27 jcamd64 kernel: [35089.589376] usb 1-10: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Feb 7 21:59:27 jcamd64 kernel: [35089.598198] scsi8 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
Feb 7 21:59:27 jcamd64 kernel: [35089.598503] usb-storage: device found at 6
Feb 7 21:59:27 jcamd64 kernel: [35089.598511] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
Feb 7 21:59:27 jcamd64 kernel: [35089.618467] usb 1-10: usbfs: interface 1 claimed by usb-storage while 'bcharge' sets config #1
Feb 7 21:59:28 jcamd64 kernel: [35090.736065] usb 1-10: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6
So, it's recognized as a USB mass storage device, but I get that weird 'waiting for device to settle before scanning'. And the device never settles.

However.. if I run Windows in VirtualBox, and attach the USB device to the virtual machine, it works. Once I exit VB, it's also working in Linux.

I'm running Barry, but other than that I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary. Anyone have any insight?

Default Linux kernel maxsectors

Linux tries to read 240 sectors - BB is faulty and can't cope.

See here for a German solution how to reconfigure linux and limit maxsectors to a lower value. Not very hard, actually.

This crappy forum does not allow me to post the link normaly

I got the same problem but solved it another way: bcharge seems to be the problem. It works after commenting out every line in /etc/udev/rules.d/10-blackberry.rules

Bye

Hey, you can read through this post at opensuse Forums:

forums.opensuse.org/get-help-here/applications/438003-barry-mount-drive-problems.html

Malcomlewis is the packager for barry and opensuse. He and I went through troubleshooting to get my system to work. it would be worth a try.

I just checked his repo and he has pulled the barry stuff.

Blackberry is not much efficient to perform this. Linux and Windows operating systems are compatible for that but sometimes Blackberry with any of this or other operating system can't support this kind of actions. It would be recognised as the mass storage that it actually not.
