8100 listen to mp3's in Media player with blutooth headset
Please Login to Remove!
Does anyone know if its possible to listen to your mp3's in the media player on your 8100 through your bluetooth.
When I have my blutooth on and I'm listening to an mp3 via the speaker on the blackberry and a call comes in, once the call ends I hear the music through my bluetooth for about 2 seconds and then i can only hear it if I place the phone up to my ear. Is there a way to listen to music with your bluetooth headset. I have a motorolla 7100 bluetooth.

Wrong thread, this is for the 8100.
Check out the 7100 for a proper response.
Anyways, the answer is no. Unless someone comes out with a firmware hack, or RIM does it first, no.
Not sure if the hardware itself, can properly do A2DP.

Anyway, the answer is no. The 8100 does not use a Bluetooth stereo headset to listen to your MP3's. The Bluetooth is only for Bluetooth GPS, Bluetooth tethering to your laptop, and Bluetooth headset for the phone calls.

Damn companies and using numerical values.
Then again, he spammed the same message on a couple threads.
Condemn Him!

Wow...how many times does the OP here have to post the same thing...he even posted this in another thread that asked if you could listen to music over bluetooth and people had said "no you can't" THEN he asked his question.
Forget suggesting searching the forums, how about reading the thread you're posting to

Ok, I got the 8100 today. First thing I did after turning it on was to pair my Plantronics P590 Bluetooth headset and no Music but I can use the phone using it.
Just to confirm: From what I'm reading in this post, you cannot use a bluetooth headset to listen to music... is this correct?

If you have the 590's that come with the BT adaptor that plugs into any stereo jack, you can use BT stereo with your Pearl. Just plug a 2.5->3.5 adaptor into the Pearl or the BT adaptor.
It's not perfect, but it's an OK setup if your Pearl is just lying on a table or desk somewhere and you are moving around the room.

I bet anyone here money that in the future there will be a hack for the 8100 so that you can tether music to your bluetooth headset. The technology is there, but the support isn't.

I would think that before a hack ever came out, a software update will accomplishing the same thing.

you CAN listen to music via bluetooth, somewhat
next time you are having a phone conversation via your bluetooth, ask the person on the other side to hold on, while they do, go into your media card folder and choose an mp3. You can actually listen (without them hearing) to music through the bluetooth headset, but only if you are on the phone with someone.
You can also watch/hear movies this way too. I know this because my girlfriend likes to fall asleep with me on the phone (I know, its strange). I got bored one day, and decided to try to watch a movie, and presto! I could hear the movie through my bluetooth headset (plantronics). Have fun.
Hint: great while you are on hold for something (ie complaining to tmobile) just pick a song, and listen away until the rep comes back.!

the problem with that is the music goes over the conversation so youl;l never know when the person comes back !!! but someone needs to make a hack so that you can listen to music through your bluetooth. I know the phone and earpiece are both capable of this.

WRONG. There are rules involved to consider a device "bluetooth complient". And if there is bluetooth, there is ways to get A2DP to work. its just a matter of time before this is resolved. Many many other phones out there do it and their bluetooth isn't anything more special than that of the 8100's bluetooth. Like I said before, its just a matter of time before the support is build into an app or firmware update to support A2DP.

This has been figured out in the PPC world it seems but the BB platform is much more secure and it may not be possible. I have heard a few seconds of audio when a call ends then it transfers to the BB. If there were an app or hack that made the phone think it was on a call without dialing out or using airtime it would work as well. I am not a programmer to figure these things out but thought I would pass along the link below to anyone that may be more savvy to figure out a similar work around like they did for the PPC.
I have found the Answer!, play music through your BT Headset - MoDaCo

A2DP isnt possible through updates (*yet) because RIM doesnt want or didnt plan on A2DP support in the first place. My guess is that when the phone was under development (3 years ago) no one ever wanted or thought of A2DP support.
Editing hackers for the 8100's firmware are rare so far. I personally havent had the time to explore the firmware or any of its features locked, unlocked, supported, or unsupported yet because of my schedule. I would be all over trying to get A2DP to work if I had a couple more hours in the day. Its possible. beleive me. All thats missing is firmware support.
