Default Nobody comparing the 8100 to 8800 yet?

I just searched for a responce to BGs new engadgetmobile announcement, and didn't see any. Maybe this should be under rumors, but seems fitting here. Gotta say - it looks hot. Didn't see a cam though.

There is a thread that addresses the 8800 and has some reaction to it:

Dammit - I did it again. Sorry. I didn't search the entire forums - just 8100.

For this one I'm gonna wait and listen to the early adopters' reviews. I'm kinda bummed about the lack of a camera. I thought it was a marquis feature of the 8100 and I assumed (careful there) the 8800 would follow suit. It's still a ways off so perhaps we will get a software/firmware update for the Pearl before we see an 8800, and that update will give us a peek at what's possibly in store for the 8800 feature-wise. Seeing one side-by-side with a Pearl will be telling as to whether or not I want to upgrade, but as much as I like SureType I think I'd like qwerty even more.

The only thing we have to compare for the size is the trackball. Compared to my beloved 8100, it doesn't look much bigger. Maybe half inch wider.

No because the 8800 is HUGE just like the 8700 is. It has slimed down a bit but only like .25" if at all. That also makes the keys increadibly small and probably not easy to navigate. You can have the 8800, I love my pearl.

Pearl > 8800

there, heres your comparison.

Ummm....Thanks for your opinion, but what are you basing the size on? How do you know it will be huge?

For one, it has a full QWERTY keyboard on it and if you put one of those on any phone it’s going to be a fatty. If you think the phone just a little bigger than the pearl or anywhere close I think your mistaken because the keys would be entirely too small for adults...the only people who could use them would be 6 year olds.

I completely agree that a qwerty adds width, however, have you seen Samsungs sgh i320? I saw a pic of it in a guys hand and it was almost identical in size to the 8100 - and it has a full keyboard. I don't think I would like the keys that close together, but even the treo 650 hide really small keys.

All I had to base my opinion of size on was the trackball, and if you look at the area outside of the trackball on the 8800 compared to the same are on an 8100, it doesn't look much different - especially not 8700 different - IMO

I'm sure BG will be around soon to fill us all in.

If so, good luck with typing/calling people. maybe there will be an accessory that downsizes your finger size. Therexxx8217;s no way you could use that QWERTY keyboard proficiently.

edit---O yea, Im not talking thickness, like shan said, Width is the subject.

yea, another reason I didnt pick up a treo..the keys are so close together it would get so innoying to call/type on that thing...typos, deleting...NIGHTMARE!

Same goes with the 8800 if its the same width as the 8100. NIGHTMARE ON QWERTY STREET!

side note---I just looked at the 8800 again...man that phone is going to suck. Those keys are way way too tiny/close together.

Well, I found the pics of the sgh i320 on engmob.

Hands-on with the Samsung i320 - Engadget Mobile

it's a bit wider than I remembered, but still pretty darn slim for a qwerty. Doesn't look as wide as an 8700.

yet another example

Samsung's SGH-i600: an HSDPA and WiFi Smartphone at last - Engadget Mobile

This shows it next to a t-mob MDA. MDA is a little over 1/2 inch wider than 8100.

I was looking for a link I saw a few weeks ago that shows the Q next to the i320, but I can't find it now. I KNOW it was thinner (width) than the Q. How could it not be? Oh well. Maybe BG will pop back in and let us know. I'm going to go do the boygenius dance for awhile and see if it works again. lol
