Q10 Syncing with Outlook 2007
Please Login to Remove!
Hello Everyone! I am a daily contributor to the CB Forums and I can speak for everyone in the US that is using desktop Outlook (2007/2010); that without the ability to sync with the new Q10 via the BB Link, it is simply a deal-buster.
Does anyone on here (including RIM employees) have any idea when this issue will be fixed or if it actually will? There are numerous threads on CrackBerry that in fact an update dealing with this issue is on the way, but no one has seen it or heard anything more about it since it was leaked.
I read in a business periodical yesterday, that there are currently a whopping 347 Million users of some version of Outlook in the world. With that many users, you would think that RIM would have considered these people (who many are also in the 70 million BB users) before removing it.
I for one am one of them. We use Outlook and BB (currently 9810's) in our business and plan on upgrading all our phones to Q10's once they hit the US. But without the sync ability, its a no-go unfortunately.
So if anyone has any reliable information about when the fix will happen, if at all, any news would be really, really appreciated--as the clock is ticking. Thanks for letting me vent a little--it too is appreciated. Thank you!!

Sync over the air is your answer.
In the words of the venerable NJBlackBerry: "Keep moving."

NJBlackberry--from the number of your posts I'm a little surprised at your reply. I certainly didn't mean to come off sounding arrogant when stating that. I have read hundreds of posts regarding this exact issue--syncing via USB with Outlook (desktop 2007/2010).
I run a business and have used (like others) Outlook (98/2000/2003/2007) as my business email client/calendar/contact list/memos/tasks, etc. I sync and backup my 9810 daily as often times when traveling for business, I'll make appointments or add contacts to my 9810--then either in my office or on my netbook, I'll sync the phone with the computers to assure it is all on the same. I am not talking about using MS Outlook Exchange Service, I do not use Exchange (or cloud systems due to nature of my business) and have a pop3 email account. This works fine for us and for thousands of others across the country and around the world.
All I'm saying is, I hope they add it back on and does anyone know if and when it will be done? Thank you.

DC/DC: I didn't think you could sync over the air with out it being the Exchange Server?

BlackBerry never makes a date (for further information, see "Skype"), and they haven't even announced when two way sync will be available. Or you can use the old chestnut popular on CB "it will come out with 10.1".
P.S. You did come across as arrogant. Regardless of my post count.

Re: Q10 Syncing with Outlook 2007
Outlook.com uses exchange active sync. It works great. I was not happy at first about the lack of desktop sync but now I'm used to cloud sync and doubt I'd go back. Now I have calendar, contacts, etc. on my BlackBerry Z10, my PlayBook, my pc and my Surface Pro.

I don't think I did and sorry you took it that way. I certainly didn't think it required a sarcastic reply like that, especially from a moderator. Regardless thanks for your input. I appreciate any and all input and answers or suggestions.

Hi Daphne, I actually use outlook.com for some personal email stuff and agree with all both of you that it works great and does what it is supposed to. However, we have had our business email addresses since the early 90's and due to the nature of our business, we can't use a cloud system. I do agree that with all the options that outlook.com offers, it is certainly an asset to everyone that uses it. Thanks for you input, I appreciate it!

Re: Q10 Syncing with Outlook 2007
Many of my associates do not want to rely on "cloud" for vital functions. Sure it is convenient. But it requires reliable Internet connection that simply isn't as widely available as some would think. Also, since users have no actual recourse against the servers owners promises are hollow.
Then there is the matter of privacy and the other factor, security. Again without a realistic way to enforce contracts users are really operating on faith.
There is reason to believe data compromises are more frequent than what has been publicly disclosed.

Haven't you seen the recent prism news?
If you are really that paranoid stick to using pgp/smime public/private keys to encrypt/decrypt your email....
Even then with the stuff they are packing by the 3 letter agencies that will be nameless .... try days to decrypt that stuff(or less).....

Re: Q10 Syncing with Outlook 2007
There are disadvantages to syncing Q10 with Outlook or any other mail client:- - BlackBerry has no control over data formats of Outlook or others. Others don't care to match BlackBerry formats. Data may be lost when formats change without warning. So syncing is unreliable and risky as a design strategy.
- My new windows7 PC does not have Outlook. Instead "windows live email" is offered as part of essentials. Blackberry link does not provide an interface to manage contacts or other data. All it does it does is backup and rely on other software vendors. An import/export mode is needed.
- Managing mail or other data on a desktop PC is relatively easy and convenient. Not so on the small form factor of a mobile device. So sending email to a phone seems clumsy and inelegant.
- Syncing with Gmail worked but it scrambled my contacts because of different formats.
So, for me, it would be better to have a text or BBM notification for some urgent item. Do email on a PC or netbook later.

Re: Q10 Syncing with Outlook 2007
Putting GMail in the middle for contacts and calendar sync gave me fits too. I'd start with about 500 contacts and by the end of the day I was showing 1300. Duplicates and triplicates abounded. What a mess. I finally gave up on the whole thing.
