Custom Ring Tones for individual Contacts - avail in OS 4.1
Please Login to Remove!
Looks like RIM listened and added custom ring tones to OS 4.1. Very nice. 7100i users should have this functionality now.

also worth noting that you'll have custom profile assignments, so you can set up your profiles to ring different for calls that meet certain criteria.

Some other features will include the ability to Hide Sent Items from Messages (1) and to assign applications to the Convenience Key (2,3).

i've been told as much by employees from RIM and TMO. it was stated that it'd be 4-6 months out (this was 1-1.5 months ago), depending on the development by RIM and carrier testing from the individual providers. i think the end of 2005 would be optimistic if not realistic.

Quick stupid question. Whats OS 4.1 ? Whats the desktop manager thing? Im having problems with the desktop manager finding my blackberry... im guessing the OS is the operating system for the phone huh? Sorry im so newb at what that is. Just alot of confussion at the site for me. Been having my blackberry for a year almost now too lol. I want to upgrade to whatever the latest is for everything though, how do i do that exactly? As well as is there an option so with the bluetooth headset you can just press the call button and do voice recognition to make a call? That would make me keep this phone in heavy rotation for sure!
Sorry for so many questions here. Answer them and I'll make you a signature design hehe.

1) The O/S is the Operating System/Platform of your BES (Blackberry Exchange Server).
2) The Desktop Manager software is what is used by synchronize messages, load software, etc., depending on which O/S is running on your BES.
3) How to upgrade? How did you come by purchasing your BBerry? If you can answer that, you have your answer.
4) Regarding voice recognition, as fas as I'm aware, RIM has not developed a model that supports this Bluetooth feature.

susie answered some of the questions correctly the OS is the operating system of the handheld.
You get all the updates for the OS and the DM at blackberry.com You use the DM to upload the new OS The DM is to sync your calendar and task and address book to the handheld

if they decide to release the 4.1 OS, then yes. if they don't, then no. its all up to the carriers.

What would deter the carriers to not release the new software. It would seem to me that it is in the carriers best interest to keep their customers happy and near, rather than unhappy and looking elsewhere. Asides from economic considerations that is.

as you said, economics. it takes time and money to do QA work on the new software - whether or not the updates would have adverse effects to the customer's service and how to fix it if it does. some companies will choose to blindly accept the code and release it, and others will go through months of testing (the big guys). others will simply choose not to worry about it. if you asked me if i thought sprint or verizon would come out with 4.1 for the 7250, i'd say yes.
