I followed the basic directions listed on this site to use my phone as a modem. However I was one of those who had cingular/AT&T and kept getting the PPP error on connection.

I am using Desktop Manager 4.2.0.14

First thing:
Options -> Advanced Options -> TCP
Take note of your APN: wap.cingular
That is what mine is.

In XP
Start -> Control Panel -> Phone and Modem Options -> Modems Tab -> Standard Modem -> Properties -> Advanced

+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.cingular"

Once I did that it finally connected and life was good!! No more PPP error!!
